Dip into past history. Fort Stockton is part of the line of forts protecting travellers. Lots of the old fort is preserved and it is easy to get a sense of its structure and the difficult life faced by early American settlers. In Summer it is very hot but adds to the understanding of life in the old days.We stayed in the town which has plenty to do and see. Some good restaurants too.

we followed the map for the driving tour but found it difficult to find some of the numbered attractions. Since it was in the 40's we enjoyed being able to drive the car to each site. The girl at the information center was very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions

It has been too long ago to give a fair and complete review. I stopped here over 20 years ago while driving cross country. Have not been there since. Sorry.

small visitor center part of the Chamber of Commerce but warming welcome and useful advice was on hand

The remains of the fort are without fences or palisades just like the original. The sheer modest nature of it impresses because it reminds that many places that had an effect on history were likely modest. Only a few of the original buildings still stand. Entrance is a few dollars.

This probably should have been a Museum. I believe it was an IBM Selectric Typewriter in use and the sound was deafening. We got the information we needed and picked up a few pamphlets.

Yup, what can I say about Fort Stockton?? Keep Driving!!We stopped for gas and fuel and it wasn't the best idea at all!!There is a sadness to dying towns, but also a serenity... But the saddest part is the "Given up" manner so many people have. I'd argue it could be a great little place with the right ideas and vital by it's location, but it was just kinda sad.We were very pleased to leave

Brochures everywhere. Very interesting helpful staff. They offered suggestions when asked. There are many interpretive exhibits to be seen. Don't miss the modern solar exhibit!

While the Ft. Stockton Visitor Center has the usual brochures for local attractions, it is more of a museum of the past. Outside of the Center are several well done interpretive exhibits, including the earliest history of the Comanche Trail, the Train Era, and the Oil Boom. There is even a very modern exhibit of solar and wind power, and includes a water conservation setup. Each of these exhibits does not give a history book review, but provide only the most interesting and unusual details. This stop is well worth your time.
