For anyone interested in active retirement communities, this is a clear winner. This Sun City has beautiful landscaping and layout, with three golf courses, two fully equipped fitness facilities with several indoor and outdoor heated pools, tennis courts, etc. There are several dozen interest groups and clubs for almost every taste. Its location in the Texas Hill Country in a well known historic university town within a half hour of Austin suburban communities is ideal--all the advantages of quiet, upscale senior living with access to cultural, educational, shopping, and leisure activities at one's fingertips. With just over 6500 homes and 13000 residents, it is about i/3 the size of either of the two Phoenix Sun Cities, and not city-like at all--more like a quiet upscale suburban neighborhood.My "top of the Sun Cities" rating reflects my personal experience of living at this Sun City for the past 9 months and the strong majority opinion of current residents; personal familiarity with four other Sun Cities (Sarasota , Hilton Head, Phoenix, San Antonio); and statements from many former residents and others. Prior to moving here we had evaluated retirement communities throughout the South and Southwest for two years. For first time visitors: the front gate is FREQUENTLY unmanned, so proceed in for two miles to the center (Del Webb and Sun City Blvd. "T" intersection). Going straight ahead at that point would put you at the current developer's (Pulte Homes) sales office. There you won't be told that there are existing homes for sale or rent--if interested in buying or renting you should first team up with a local citizen or real estate office, as previously owned home sales are brisk. (Disclaimer: I am a retired professional with absolutely no connection with any realty or any other local business.)

I have been considering this community as a retirement destination and have visited on three occasions this year. There are many positive attributes, but there are significant negative findings that need to be considered. You need to throughly check the quality of the local medical care. Realize that there are many new homes currently being built with many more planned. What are the plans to handle this increase in traffic and facility use by residents? There is a huge difference in what you may consider a crowded facility but the company may consider it under utilized capacity. I have been less impressed with each visit and you must talk with multiple residents and ASK QUESTIONS! Investigate the entire facility thoroughly!

This is a wonderful community for those who are active and enjoy the facilities that are provided here. Fitness centers, pools, pickle ball, tennis, horseshoes, boce ball, billiards, computers, art, 3 golf courses and pro shops, just about anything you look for in a active community. There are many opportunities to volunteer as well. We live here and have for 4 years and completely enjoy it.

With so many things to do and clubs you can stay as busy as you would like or do nothing at all. It is about 30 miles north of Austin so you are away from the rat race but close enough if there is a reason you want to go. We checked out several retirement communities in several states and decided that the Texas hill country was the right place for us. We really enjoy it here and our neighborhood is a great place to be with friendly and helpful neighbors. All in all it is a very nice place to live. We. have lived here for 8 years and have never regretted one day.

we loved it so much we moved here. This is a fabulous place to live. Away from the nightmare of Austin traffic but close enough. Amenities include three golf courses, two gyms, several classrooms for every imaginable class you could want for fun and exercise, friendly helpful people, wonderful neighbors, this place has everything and then some. Our only regret is not doing this years ago.

This retirement community currently has over 7,000 homes. It is well managed with strong covenants and bylaws and professional enforcement. So, if you are one of those free thinking, "let me do whatever I want" people: DON"T even think about moving here. We moved to Sun City in 2008 to get away from the noise, undisciplined children, and traffic in Cedar Park, Tx. It has three golf courses, over 100 social clubs, numerous swimming pools, two gyms with trainers, and hiking trails. Organized much like a military community (with many military retirees) there are block and neighborhood homeowners who represent the homeowners to the community association and builder (Pulte). Our neighbors are friendly. Our only complaint over the years have been the barking dogs which the owners think are cute and not an issue but is annoying to most residents and violates the covenants. Such annoyances are reported to the community association standards enforcement office which has successfully resolved the situation.We are very pleased with the management, fees, and overall amenities in Sun City. Planning to expand beyond the 7,500 homes, it appears the builder will continue to add homes for the next decade.

This theater is large and clean with lots of parking. Some of the latest movies are not shown here which is disappointing. the seats are comfortable.

I am too young to live there - I do go into neighborhood a lot on volunteer work and used to for secular reason. Have to say, I would never want to live in a sterile environment. Georgetown is great - Obviously the thousands who have chosen to live here like it.

OK, let's get this straight here. I rated this the way I did because this is NOT AN ATTRACTION. This is a retirement community. If you do not live here, there will be nothing for you to do here except drive around and look at houses. If you are looking to retire and live here, that's different. Look up Sun City and contact them. HOWEVER, if you are consulting Trip Advisor for something to DO in Georgetown and you go to Sun City for entertainment, you will be VERY disappointed. About the extent of things to do in Sun City if you aren't a resident is eat at one of the 3 average restaurants and fill your tank with gas that is usually 25¢ a gallon higher than everywhere else in town. There's the Veterans Memorial, but I wouldn't view it as a destination spot.This is a neighborhood. A big new neighborhood. Nothing historic or unique. There are great things to do... ONLY IF you live there. Otherwise, skip it.

I have a question about Sun City Texas....we have a winter home in Phoenix where we enjoy great weather all winter. Our kids moved to Austin so we are considering a move to Sun City Texas for our winter home. My question is...what can I expect for weather throughout the winter months in Sun City Texas? We enjoy 70s-80s throughout the winter in Phoenix. I know it probably isn't that warm in Texas through the winter but wondered what exactly to expect?? Thank you!

You must see the green joy of Sun city. As a six year resident, I will extol the landscaping, the trails, the neat and clean neighborhoods and the 2 gyms and 7 swimming pools. A great community where stress is at a minimum. There are 3 restaurants. All ok if you don'y want to travel...

We have lived here for 6 yrs. Love them all.. There is so much to do here. We are really happy about the restrictions, you don't have to worry about the yard next door falling apart. There's always something to do or some place to go with a group.

We have spent the last three winters living as home owners and retirees in Sun City. Its a beautifully planned community with many amenities and options and we really enjoy the time we spend here.However. its also good to get a change of scenery every year for five months. Because Sun City is a master planned retirement community it doesn't feel like a "real" town with little diversity of ages, architecture, etc., and it just feels good to experience a regular town also.

Sun City in Georgetown has to be among the most beautifully designed and landscaped planned (and affordable) communities in Central Texas. The thoughtfully designed common areas, sidewalks, trails, water features and amenities (pool, golf, tennis, activity rooms) are outstanding. Every time we visit and attend activities in Sun City, residents, volunteers, and staff are always welcoming and friendly. When it comes time to retire, Sun City will certainly make our short list.
