Back in the 60's, this was a little-known very lovely oasis, but over the years became increasingly popular, so much so that apparently now in the summer is overrun. Still, in the off season, it is a must visit, and worth it to take a long walk and swim in. Just wear shoes, as there is broken glass.
Nice place to go cool off in the heat of the Texas summer, paddle in the rock pools........... You could take a picnic and enjoy an afternoon.
We really enjoyed hanging out & swimming here. We did not see a lot of trash or ppl for that matter. I can see how things probably get crazy on weekends & during the summer. Ppl always seem to use & abuse places especially when they are free. There were some ladies fishing. Someone had caught 4 carp & just left them laying on a rock by the parking. The water level was ok when we were there.
Go early on the weekends before noon the licals start to show us around 1. Did not see much trash at all. Be sure to bring good water shoes. The rocks are quite slippery. Bring the sun screen there is no shade. Water is no deeper than 4 feet about a half mile up from crossing. Coarse this will change with water flow.
This is a pretty stop and you can park to the side and walk around...great place to cool your feet in the water. There were lots of families there as well.
This use to be a really awesome place to go swimming and have fun but the waters low these days and people leave there trash all over the place
This is a wonderful swimming hole located in Kingsland NOT Llano. nice shallow water for families with really small ones.
An old hang out place. Fun in the sand and clear cool rapids of the Llano River. You can just relax in the water or do some tubing. Be careful walking on the big granite rocks.
This use to be a nice place but the trash, broken glass and drunks may it a hazard for families and children. Fights breakout on the weekends and parking is non existent. People let their dogs run loose and so dog fights are also not uncommon.
No water, due to the drought. The people that come to hang out and swim leave trash, dirty diapers, etc. It would be a great place if people would clean up after themselves. We need a flood to wash away the trash!
It was not crowded and it's free. It is a very chilled out thing to do but you can bring a cooler and just hang out. I loved it and my kids enjoyed the small fish and looking for rocks. AWESOME!
I like that it's free and a big enough area that it's usually not too crowded. But last year the water was VERY low, so you have to keep in mind water levels. You have to expect to run into rocks, though if you are 'shooting the rapids' (joke, they're not fast, but you can still get banged up some). There's a new RV park by it this year, so I don't know how that has changed the scene.
Off highway 3404, not far from Kingsland TX, the "slab" is the perfect place ro escape hot summer days. The rocks create "pools" in the river that are shallow and great for families.
This area is wonderful in warm weather and winter alike. In winter you can watch eagles and other large birds of prey, In spring/summer you can swim in very clear water, wade and hang out on big smooth limestone rocks.
