We drove through here on our way home from Austin recently. I wanted to see Smithville since I had not been there before. So we drove over to see the gingerbread man. I really hate to say anything negative, but it is a joke. Unless you just want to get out and stretch, I wouldn't make an effort to see this. I'm sorry to say this. The old buildings nearby are nice to see, but need retailers badly as many small towns do.
All throughout the town were little miniature gingerbread men that the community put up in his honor. So cute.
Not worth it, nothing really to see. Spend your time at the Railroad park instead or walking Main Street.
Smithville is a quaint little town that oozes Texas Hospitality! Holiday's are always special, Halloween Main Street Zombie walk, Christmas Festival of Lights, Thunder on the Colorado. Colorado river access with an awesome City Park!
This is the mold for the world's largest gingerbread man, which has now been filled with concrete, painted, and put up with an explanatory sign. I wouldn't make a special trip to see it, but if you are in town you should stop by. It is adjacent to s train museum and playground as well as a dog park.
If you are going to visit here, you have to go all in and see the gingerbread man. "Smitty" is right by the train station smiling at the downtown and surprisingly holding up well in the oppressive Texas heat. At holiday time, this would be the most charming place to take a good family picture and to get in the spirit.
Worth an after dinner stroll to the end of Main St. for a picture with Smitty, the largest Gingerbread man!
Nice break for the kids, located by the dog park and close to restaurants. Next to charming Smithville downtown.
