This is a perfect stop to take the family while downtown. It's a small museum but it's packed with tons of cool history. The kids enjoyed seeing all the fire trucks and tools. The retired firemen that work there are very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions with a smile.

Absolutely LOVED this place--the 1938 fire station, the fire trucks (a.k.a. "Apparatus") from the 1880's to 1960's, and the friendly and knowledgeable volunteers! The receptionist was welcoming & Walt gave us the grand tour--a great afternoon!

great to see all the old fire equipment and learn some history about the san Antonio f.d.. the museum is manned by volunteers who will answer any questions and explain all the old equipment. no charge, but they do ask for a small donation. well worth the visit

What a wonderful museum. The cost is $8.00 pp. The retired firemen who work there are awesome. They treat you like you are an old friend! You can ask all the question you like as these firemen are so happy to talk about all the equipment, trucks, services, etc. My husband worked on many fire trucks so one of the firemen was delighted! They talked and talked and talked lol! He even took us to the back shop and showed us around (not open to the public)Great place to visit.

Where else will you get a chance to see 6 fire trucks and be able to climb all over them. Kids will love it and anyone who loves fire trucks this is a dream come true, trucks dating back to the 40s. A must do its just a block from the Alamo.

It's interesting to remember the biggest fires in town. The history of the firemen in San Antonio is very interesting. I don't know if I would care much about the history if I was just visiting SA. If you have any young want to be firefighters they have excellent hands on exhibits. If you can find a retired fire fighter they are not afraid to talk about their experiences. Great experience, especially if you are looking for something to do on the weekend for a great value. LOCALS SUPPORT YOUR FIRE DEPT!

I have lived in San Antoino pretty much all my life and I new about station number 1 downtown but never new about the history but now I'm part of a class called the San Antoino fire department Citizens fire academy and we did a tour there and I found a lot more and was amazed about some things that the retired fire fighter was saying and loved it.

Museum volunteer was working reception desk and friendly and welcoming with questions. My 15 year old son was interested. No one in family

this is a hidden treasure, especially if you have children. smal but packed full of information. ring the bell, dress up in equipment and take lots of pictures. the volunteers are former firemen and are very gracious. Definately put this on yourlist of "to do's"

My son loves fire trucks, and has wanted to be a fire fighter for as long as I can remember, so after stopping at the Alamo we walked over to the Fire Museum and He was so in love with this place. They had some great things to look at and even to touch, which for a kid is great. His favorite part was getting to dress up like a fireman and standing on the back of an old fire truck. Some of the best pictures on vacation I took of him were at this Museum.

I'm a firefighter so I'm biased, but it's very cool. Lots of hands on stuff, kids can climb and play on stuff. Run by retire firefighters, so that's cool. Also, they sell San Antonio FD t shirts. If you're going to being home a souvenir, and you know you are, might as well make the purchase for a good group. For sure worth a visit. Literally across the street from the alamo.

My husband and I visited the Fire Museum while in San Antonio for our babymoon. I am so glad we made this a stop on our visit; it was a definite highlight of our trip. Being that my husband is a firefighter, we were excited to see what the museum had to offer. It's not huge, but it's very hands-on for little kids and adults alike. Kiddos can climb on one of the engines and wear replica bunker gear. There are a lot of neat pieces of firefighting history here. At the gift shop, we picked up an adorable night light for our son who was born in October. Nothing is overpriced and the guys who run the place will tell you about any of the pieces they have in the museum. A definite must-see for anyone - not just fire families! Easy to swing by after a stop at the Alamo. Just a few steps away.

After a tour of the Alamo my family stopped by the Fire museum and it was such a great experience. Trucks for the kids to climb on and memorabilia that truly tells the history and contribution of fire fighters in the San Antonio area. For a modest contribution it was well worth the visit. I highly recommend it.

we went here one cold afternoon - me, my wife and my 3.5 year old son. It has a $4 donation for adults - kids are free. They have volunteers here who explain the history of the fire station, museum and the vehicles in there. It only has 3-4 fire trucks. But it is so much fun. There is an area where we can try on firemen apparel, and play around on a fire truck. My son was absolutely delighted. They also have a play area with toys, puzzles, blocks, etc - we thought we would be out of here in about 30 minutes but we ended up staying there for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The volunteers were wonderful and knowledgeable and they answered all our questions about the equipment. They also sell some small toys which we were more than happy to buy.My son thoroughly enjoyed it.

I love history especially fire department history. I think we spent more time here than we did touring the Alamo. I really enjoyed listening to the retired firefighters tell us their stories, and as a current firefighter in Montana it's always interesting to see other departments and their history.
