This was a small zoo. It did not take very much time to go through this zoo. They had the usually animals such as lions, tigers, monkeys. They had a wonderful building that housed snakes and reptiles. The only bad thing was they had some buffalo, but were on the other side of the land for them. It was very hard to see them.
Well... it was something to do and it didn't cost very much. For two adults, one child over 5 and two babies, it cost $10 to get in.This is a small zoo that takes about an hour to get through. The sign in the front when entering was not only funny but accurate. "Children, please control your parents". It's clean and all the walkways are paved. I have a double stroller and it worked well here. However, I will say, the animals looked more depressed than any other animals I've ever seen at any other zoos. A lot of the animals looked weak. The wallaby (kangaroo) broke my heart as did the bobcats.. who we meowed at. One of them mouthed back a meow but no noise came out. Many of the animals were missing from their exhibits. A lot of exhibits also didn't have information at all so we were left to our own devices to figure out what some of them were. They have a reptile building that's really nice. It's the nicest part of the zoo. We went on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded. The employees were friendly. They had some tortoises outside and they were pretty interesting to watch. They also have an educational building where the kids (and adults) are able to touch different stuff. I think our favorite part of the zoo was definitely the American Bison and Mustangs. It's awesome to see animals you know use to freely roam around these parts. The concessions aren't opened during the Fall and Winter I'm guessing. It said they would open back up in March. So if you get thirsty, there's water fountains in the Educational building. Also, very nice bathrooms. There's not a changing table though. If your baby or toddler needs changing, you'll have to do it on the counter. All in all, I would recommend this zoo for a visit if you were in Amarillo or going through. It was nice to get out of the car.
This is a great little zoo. So well kept, all the animals look happy and well cared for. It only costs $4 admission so it's well worth the money.
We love to go to zoos and this was our 3rd in 5 weeks of travel. This was the smallest of the three and very clean and well kept. Keepers were friendly and the information about the animals was very informative. We spent a few hours and ended up walking around the circular design twice. Great for kids.
This is a small zoo, but well kept. The animals look healthy. There is plenty of parking and places to purchase food. The reptile building was very nice. The education center was closed as they prepared for the Christmas holiday activities. It was nice to see teenagers volunteering there. Some of the displays were empty. It has the potential to be a very nice zoo if it received more funding.
We were in town visiting our grandson and great grandson (two years old) and had some time to kill so we went to the zoo. I was pleased with the admission price, the presentation of the wildlife, and our time spent. There were not very many people there while we were visiting so we were able to take a lot of time looking at the Lions, Tigers, and Bears........
This is a small zoo but it is kept nice and neat. The animals are cared for and it shows. The kid's loved going because it is not an enormous zoo that takes all day to go through.
Perfect size zoo! Only took an hour or two to lea surly stroll around the grounds. Monday you get in free. Plenty of different animals but not an overwhelming zoo that takes all day to see. Easy to get to and free parking. Small play area inside for small kids to take a break. Plenty of shade and benches to sit and relax on.
Felt bad seeing the lions & tigers in such a small enclosure. Wish they'd expand. Male lion definitely put on a great show of voicing his opinion for food at feeding time. FREE on Mondays.
My wife and grandkids visited recently and I saw a real improvement in this zoo from our last visit, about a year ealier. The zoo has really come a long way and we spent over twice as much time there as our last visit. It's still a small zoo and more suited for younger children but it's a perfect day out with kids under 12. There's a discovery center were you can learn about some of the local species and the volunteers there help make it more interactive and informative for the young ones. The kids play area also helps because the little ones do get bored quickly if they're not climbing or jumping on something. Overall a good way to spend the time if you like animals or have kids you want to treat to something fun and exciting.
The zoo is small but it has great enclosures and fun animals. They always have events here that are fun to participate in. The new herpetarium is very nice and provides a place to cool off in the summer. The playground could use a few more benches around it, as when we are done walking around my daughter likes to play and the bench is usually taken. It doesn't take long to go around the zoo and things haven't changed much in the last 10 years but its nice to visit anyway.
We were surprised how small the zoo is (mostly a circle loop), but we really enjoyed it. Several animals that are not common in other zoos. Our daughter also loved the playground area. I enjoyed the view, and the cattle grazing.
It's a good small town zoo. There some wonderful enclosures and you can get closer to some of the animals that you can at bigger zoos. You can defiantly see where the zoos has been recently upgraded as well as where they are currently upgrading. It's $4 bucks to get in and plan for 30-60 minutes. There are lots of nice picnic areas and playgrounds for the little ones.
It took about 45 minutes to see everything. Very small zoo. And a lot of common animals you see along the road like a raccoon, coyote, goats, hoarse, longhorns, etc. I will say the Lions and Tigers were cool. Never been that close to them before. Definitely will take my niece their. And its very cheap.
The zoo is SMALL, so do not expect anything large like you would see in OKC or Dallas. My husband and I took our one year old here for his first visit to a zoo. It was the perfect size for a toddler. The exhibits were clean, the animals seemed happy. I really enjoyed the tiger and lion exhibit, you didn't have to strain to try to find them or see them. They are right there, to where you can take great pictures. Admission is really cheap, and we were able to go through everything within an hour. Would highly recommend for small children, or for first visits to the zoo!
