You shouldn't miss this if you have a couple of hours in Afton. The spring is an underground geyser that rises up and makes a creek flow out of the mountain-side at intervals! It is really an unusual sight and shouldn't be missed. It is a beautiful drive up the canyon- go slow as much of it is narrow enough for just one truck.
This hike is one of our favorites. We go once a year! Sometimes the waterfall shuts off sometimes it doesn't but the hike is always beautiful. the hike to the base of the cascade is easy, my 63 year old mom made it no problem. The "trail" to the top of the falls is a bit tricky and in heavy snow years it stays snow packed all summer, but you can make it with kids. I recommend trekking poles if you go to the top.
I will say this is a beautiful place to see, I was able to take amazing family pic, and enjoy this... I am not an out doors person, but even for me this was fun and I would do it again! I loved Wyoming when I visited, it is a beautiful state and can not wait to go back!
Nice, fairly level hike to springs. It is a little more challenging at the end if you want to climb to the top, but we stayed at the bottom and still had a great view. Very pretty walk -- salw trout in the water along the way.
The water was very high in July and becomes intermittent in late August. Still a great hike and good for the whole family. The drive to Intermittent Spring is about 5 miles on a narrow dirt road not big enough for two cars in many places. Be prepared to let the river side traffic pass.
This is an amazing place just drive up swift creek canyon as far as they will let you then take the family and walk on up to one of Gods greatest features. It is the worlds largest cold water spring. If you were lucky enough to get a drink of water from the faust you will agree it will crack your teeth in the middle of August. It is so cold and refreshing.
I love visiting here whenever I'm in Star Valley. The drive is extremely beautiful with many places worth stopping to see. The spring itself is great. Only a short hike from the trail head to the base of the spring. Easy enough for just about anyone to be able to make this hike. It can't be more than a couple of miles round trip. Morning or evenings take a jacket. There is a picnic table at the base of the spring. You'll see others visiting but it has never been crowded on any visit I've made. As for it being intermittent, you'll need some patience to see that and will likely have to stick around and watch for a very long time depending on the time of year.
