Alpine meadows, great hiking trails and views that go on forever. And quaint mountain communities on either side!
Beautiful views of the mountains and plains/mesas. Stopped to take panoramic photos. No traffic. Actually saw an elk, we think. Enough said.
This is an amazing road to travel in the summer. There are quite a few great short hikes that can get you even more amazing views. Stop in the tiny town of Centennial before heading up and over the byway. Then once in Saratoga, stay a while! What a fun town.
Crossing Wyoming in October, I wasn't sure what the drive would be like. I've been in the area in the summer and really enjoyed it though. It was a spectacular drive! We made several stops and even though it was cold, wet and windy, took the bike for a spin too. Beautiful area and amazing views.
Wonderful experience. The view's with the sun coming up are to die for !! If you are in the area, it is a great drive.
So beautiful . So tranquilVisiting Laramie from Ireland and went to the snowie mountains for the day stopped off at lake Marie , unbelievably gorgeous
I took some wonderful fall photos on this drive. I especially loved the top of the world view from the turret on the summit and Mirror and Marie's Lake. The aspens were also spectacular.
If traveling on I-80 and have the time, do not miss this scenic drive. It starts and ends on the Interstate, so you won't get lost. The drive between Saratoga and Centennial is the most beautiful, but the whole drive is scenic. There are several viewpoints, so you can stop and take in the fabulous scenery. There are also restrooms at some of these stop offs. There are several hiking trails as well. Be sure to stop for an ice cream cone at the little gift shop in Centennial. The road does close in winter, so if traveling very early or late in the year, check on the road conditions.
This is a wonderful drive on this Byway, very scenic with the mountains & there was still snow on the mountains which added to this drive.
You will not find scenery like this anywhere. The fishing is great at all the roadside lakes and the wildlife is abundant. Watch for moose, elk, deer, pika, marmots, and who knows what else. You will enjoy this drive, which doesn't take you too far off of the main interstate.
The snowy range, including Medicine Bow mountain and nearby peaks is a great place for hiking, picnicing, and gazing at the mountains. We have been going for many years, and really enjoy it. This past August was really wonderful at the snowy range, and we enjoyed many of the day hikes. Even though I am 75, I can still hike quite a way into the mountains, and see the birds, animals, and rocks.
Snowy range towers sharply above the surrounding mountains. A light grey color makes them look like they have snow on them all year.
The lakes and camping areas are majestic....mirror lake, libby flats, sugarloaf camping area...stunning beauty.
Great hiking and 4-wheeling and the Snowy Range scenic byway is very scenic. Well worth the trip. A must do in this area.
Just beautiful drive closer than any other to the actual peaks and lakes at high altitude. attractions on both side of the range and especially the hobo pools in Saratoga.
