No artificial colors or preservatives in these pistachios, which didn't surprise me as they are a supplier to our local Whole Foods. Very clean and appealing store with friendly and attentive employees. Samples were offered generously in a sanitary way over the counter. We bought red chili pistachios, red chili peanut brittle and tortugas (turtles) - all delicious. Unfortunately, we did not have time for the tour, which sounded like fun.
If you're in Alamagordo, NM you've got to stop at the Eagle ranch Pistachio Groves/Heart of the desert. It's a beautiful location . We took the one hour tour starting at 1:30pm. Toured the whole operation from Trees to processing and packaging and then sales! excellent tour. Lots of samples of both the Pistachios and also, the wine. Really informative!
I'm usually not pro-NM wines, but these guys are awesome! Their gypsy heart or wandering gypsy or whatever the name was. (It involved gypsy in either English or Spanish.) It was a nice flavorful dry red. Their nuts are also tasty. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the chile flavored pistachios. Their toffee was also very good. The only reason we didn't buy it was because we were trying to limit the sweets in our home.
OMG great awesome little shop and the service everywhere was amazing! Take the tour and say hi to Tyler for us!
This is a great place to sample different flavors of pistachios. Besides the normal roasted and salted, they have red chili, green chili with onion, extra hot red chili, and several other kinds of pistachios. They let you sample each kind. The pistachio candies are delectable also. We bought trees from here last year and bought more from them this year. Very healthy trees. I also enjoyed the wine tasting. It was quite smooth. The gift shop had a lot of cute items in them. We did not do the tour, but will definitely do so next time. Thank you for an enjoyable time.
We were actually at the location on the plaza in Old Mesilla. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Lots of fun items in the gift shop. But its the wine that keeps 'em coming back. Great selection and knowledgeable presentation.
Heart of the Desert has a visitor's center, free wine tasting, nut farm, nuts for sale, and a small gift shop. It's a cool little place to visit. Clean, lots of character, friendly people. The wine is fantastic. Worth a visit.
This place has surprisingly good wine, even though the sommelier knew nothing about wine and even confided in us, "I don't like wine." Besides that awkward moment, we appreciated the wine a great deal. We enjoyed the Merlot for its uncharacteristically sweet bouquet and the Corazon Gitano, a red blend.
When we're in Alamogordo, we always stop by heart of the desert for a wine tasting and usually buy some wine, pistachio products and candy. Their wine is quite good as are all the other products. You can tour the pistachio grove and the winery if you like every afternoon.
Heart of the Desert has a wonderful selection of pistachios, various nuts, and marvelous homemade wines! The personnel are very friendly, hospitable, and knowledgeable about their products. The woman taking care of the wine bar was a sweetheart, making us feel welcome and comfortable sampling Heart of the Desert wines whilst helping us choose the right wines for ourselves and gifts. We purchased quite a nice variety from Malvasia Bianca (sweet white desert wine) to Cabernet Sauvignon. ALL of their wines are DELICIOUS and reasonably priced! We were quite impressed with how organized and CLEAN the entire store was and purchased quite a few items for Christmas and Hanukkah gifts. There is another pistachio ranch up the road called McGinn's with the giant nut monument, however, their wine bar wasn't open even on a busy Saturday afternoon. We enjoyed Heart of the Desert/Eagle Ranch much more than the one in the guide book and would return again!
This place sells everything from straight bags of pistachios to anything that can be flavored by this nut. the store is very clean and well laid out. the people inside are friendly and helpful.
It was nice to see the pistachio and pecan groves thriving in this area. Its hard to find a healthier and tastier snack than fresh roasted pistachios and this shop had those along with a lot of cute gift ideas.
We were pin a bus tour of the Southwest and stopped at the Eagle Ranch Pistachio Farm. They explained the process of harvesting Pistachios. We also were able to sample some wine and have an opportunity to taste and buy different flavors of pistachios and buy ice cream flavored with pistachio.
Thanks for coming in to try our wines. Glad you found some that you enjoy.
I stopped by on Sunday morning but no samples of pistachios were available. I understood why no wine, but no nuts? I bought at the other place!
