OMG...what a wonderful green chili cheeseburger!! I had the MAD burger I think it is called, the prizewinner, as I recall. It had fried whole chili on it as well, super delish!!! Fries were great and drinks were nice and strong but tasty. It was a COLD day so a bit chilly but they had a nice fire so we made it..ask to sit away from the wall. No live music that day but often there is so call ahead to make sure...always more fun and better crowd when there is music. Our waitress, Sean...AMAZING!!!! LOVE this place...no frills but great food and a step back in time. I visit every time I am in New Mexico!!! I would like to see the restrooms improved!!!! That is the only thing I would like to see styled after the 21st century...all else can remain the same!!! RESTROOMS-RESTROOMS...hear our plea!!!

We arrived late in the afternoon coming from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, by way of the Turquoise Trail. The atmosphere was fun, as it looked just as you'd expect on old western mine shaft to look. The staff was great and answered our kids silly questions about old ghost stories. Apparently, the one that the barkeep had run in to was very nice and just there to keep an eye on the place. That's a good answer when kids are around. Since it wasn't lunch time, we just had a couple of appetizers. One was a plate of nachos. With picky eaters, the kids wanted plan cheese, so they suggested bringing all the other stuff on the side. They even took the plate back to the kitchen for more cheese once they saw how our little ones grab up all the cheesy ones, leaving the plan chips for dear old mom and dad. I've never had that happen before. Plus, they make a great margarita! It was just right after a long plane trip!

I give this place 4 stars for its location and authentic style old time saloon atmosphere, not for the food or service. It's a great place to stop while riding the turquoise trail. I rented a Harley in Albuquerque and had memorable trip, topped by this place. Being from the east it was like a step back to the old west for me. Service and food wasn't as memorable as the atmosphere.

This place has all the right feel for an old tavern. Rustic interior and exterior with lots of character including the bartenders and waitresses. We ordered bison burgers with green chiles and they were excellent. They have a good selection of beer on tap. This was worth the drive up the Tourquoise trail but if you are in a hurry just take a detour off the main highway to Madrid.

My boyfriend and I have been to the mine shaft many times but after this past Sunday over Memorial weekend no more. The help was surly , my food had a big hair in it, my boyfriend had one very watered down drink. The entertainment was the same who sat and insulted people from santa fe and said he is paid by tips. Well this santa fe couple who have tipped him in the passed had one insult too many. His act is old and we do not need to sit and hear his right wing politics..just entertain. The place should have been packed but was not and being a few miles from santa fe maybe people are tired of the bad attitude and insults. The place across the street was packed and great music. It was very relaxing and fun something the mine shaft used to be. They lost our business and from the looks if it many others. Gross experience.

Atmosphere. Place either is or a great fake of an old-time western bar / restaurant. This is definitely the place where the locals eat -- and they tend to older bikers or hippies or both. This is New Mexico -- so they are friendly and welcoming to strangers. The most recent time I ate there the food was excellent -- the best fish tacos I have ever had and I have lived in Santa Fe for ten years. To get there from Santa Fe, just take Cerillos Road out-of-town. It becomes Route 14 or the turquoise Trail -- but it is the same road. Just continue on that road, you come to Madrid. Keep driving straight ahead and the Mineshaft will be on your left.Throwing in the shopping and Mad - rid is a great place to visit.

If you have half a day near Santa Fe, check Madrid out! I was told it pronounced, "Mandrid"! Anyway small place with lots of history! This particular place has rustic aura, nice draft beer and reasonable food.

Sono stata con la mia famiglia in questo ristorante attraversando il percorsoTorquoise Trail da Albuquerque a Madrid. Il cibo è fresco e buono, hanno anche gli hamburgher con carne Kobe. Servizio gentile e bellissima atmosfera wecchio west! Deliziose le cipolle come contorno. Molto buona anche la torta Berry White Cheesecake! Qui risulta essere un'attrazione perchè è vicino ad un museo, l'Old Coal Town Museum, ma si tratta di un ristorante, non di un'attrazione. Consigliato!
