The owner loves her Peonies and is out and about amongst her plants, which she eagerly attends to. She is also very helpful, if you have any questions. I recommend being careful on the timing of your visit. Peonys Envy is fantastic, but it you come a bit too late or a bit too early in the season, it is just a field with a bunch of green plants, but if you time it right, it is beautiful with a spectacular mix of colors!
If you are an aficionado of all things Peony related, Peony's Envy is a place you must visit. This nursery only raises unusual Peony cultivars, which are for sale on site or mail order. During the growing season one may visit and see all of the blooming peony's in all of their glory.
This is the place to see thousands in bloom (Best time is at the end of May, beginning of June). You need Garmin to help find this little farm in Bernardsville, tucked in a shady nook at the end of a small road but we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the rows of colorful peony plants along the street and under all the trees on this semi shaded property. There's a $5 charge to walk on the property but you can take all the pictures you like and enjoy the aroma of the flowers. Friday nights after 5 pm, you can picnic on the lawn. The owner was a guest on the Martha Steward show and she will tell you how to take care of the plants you wish to purchase. Bare rooted specimens were 5 for $100 or $25 ea for a smaller amt. Potted plants cost $29 but were larger. No pets are allowed.
Sitting on an eight-acre property with well maintained paths that allow you to appreciate closely one of the most beautiful genre of flowers - the peonies (500 different cultivars from four major types: woodland, tree, herbaceous, and intersectional), considered the king of flowers in China. From late April to late May, their web site provides timely information on what types of peony are in bloom. For other time periods, you can also enjoy beautiful pictures and order online.
