Don't go to Allaire for the train! We came to visit on 12/14/14 all the way from NY and specifically for the train ride with five small children under the age of 7. Their website states that the train runs every half an hour but no additional information was given. Tickets can NOT be purchased online for the train (although they can be purchased online for touring the village). We arrived at 11am on a Sunday figuring that if the first train was booked, we'd buy tickets for a subsequent train ride. Well it turns out that the ticket office is actually pre-selling train rides for one to two weeks in ADVANCE! We didn't have a prayer for any train ride that day! Apparently this is well known to local's since I didn't see entire families waiting outside the ticket office as just one adult stood in line for tickets. Pine Creek doesn't sell train tickets online NOR do they update their website to let you know that they are SOLD OUT on certain dates. As such, after a lengthy commute with 5 small children, we elected to buy tickets to "tour" the Allaire village as a consolation to our children not going on the Santa Train ride. The Allaire tour tickets and wagon ride cost us about $100 for 7 people. Don't come for the train ride from afar unless someone has bought you your train tickets in advance. The Allaire Village was quaint however not worth the money.
We were just out hitting all the sights we never did as kids or with our kids. We grew up many miles from here and thought we would have some fun.We really enjoyed the structures on the line. Some had old n guage mini-train layouts. Very nice. We enjoyed it and can't wait to bring grandkids here
A short train ride that runs every half hour, just twice around the track. Open-air and enclosed rail cars.
The Pine Creek Railroad is a fun way to spend part of your day at Allaire State Park. A nice historic train ride that is reasonably priced. Don't miss the Santa Train rides when you can take photos with Jolly Ol' Saint Nick.
I took my 4-yr old nephew on the afternoon train ride with Santa today. He had a great time and was so excited to ride the train and meet Santa!! This is entirely ran by volunteers who are so generous with their time. My nephew got to pick his seat (he chose the cupola in the Kaboose) and Santa visited and talked to every child on the train! Since he talks with every child, the train can run a bit behind schedule but there is a little store, snack truck, and the 100-yr old station for you to wait in. The volunteers are so nice and took our family photo on the train and Santa was patient to take photos with the children as well. At the end the ride, an elf hands out a little goodie to everyone on the train! Nice experience for little ones :)The only thing that would make it a bit better is if there were things to look at during the train ride (which goes in a loop, 2-3 times) so that the kids can look out the window at something (Christmas cut outs or something similar).
Great and reasonibility priced way to spent a December evening. Our boys, 2 & 5, were so excited about the train ride! The ride was about 20 minutes which was perfect for their attention span. Santa was also very nice with the boys and they got a key chain gift. We got a lot of good pictures! This was a fun activity with our family and friends.
For the train enthusiast young and old this is a real treat. The train is located within Allaire State park. There is plenty to do at the park, a blacksmith, nature center, bakery and gift shop. But the cherry on top is the train ride. The train goes at a modest speed so you can enjoy the surrounding forest.
This was a nice little offshoot from Allaire State Park. It wasn't very big, but it was clean, friendly, and well-maintained. There were a lot of people there to take a train ride around the park (about a 5 minute round trip) and the ride looked safe and fun for kids. FYI - There are stairs involved if you want to ride the train - but not to enter the park itself.
This train is within Allaire State Park. Fun for all ages. Nominal charge for tickets and the train ride is around the park.
The train ride is short and goes around twice. The conductor was informative. He said that in the 2nd week of September, they open up the train yard to the public, so there's more to see. There's no real museum for this, as the real name suggests.
Great place to take family young and old for a fun little train ride all done up for christmas. Also it was a unique village train musseum. Not badly priced for the ride.
This is run and maintained by volunteers not over paid parks department people. Because its a lot of work. So if the place is a little less than your shiny wishes, volunteer and make as perfect as you want it to be. Other wise appreciate it dor what it is a piece of history brought to you by amazing people who could be spending their time elsewhere.Yes this is worded strong as my usual rant but I don't want to hear how someone was disappointed and did nothing to make it happen. its a lot xloser and cheaper than Strasburg railroad and the peolle here are much nicer. Much! So thank you to the men and women who eek out time in their busy lives to be here.
Little kids and big kids can have a nice outing at a reasonable price. There's lots more to do at Allaire State Park too.
This would mostly be of interest to a railroad buff and fun for children. It operates on a limited schedule with a few special events scheduled.
This train is in Allaire State Park. Note that since it is a state park, they charge an entrance fee in the summer. If you plan on going for the day it is a very nice place to bring a young family. the kids love the train. They have one of only a few surviving cabooses of s type.
