This school is great to learn about the history of the school. Readily available information for those who ask. Historians on site to answer any questions you have. One portion of the schoolhouse had mannequins of 2 teachers and students in a little classroom setting brought to life. As well as a stove and first aid kit that was used. Teachers who taught at the school preserved nicely in in a plastic binder, rules for teachers who taught, and toys were encased in glass to preserve. The other side of the room, was a museum with toys and books and pictures also encased in glass to preserve. Pamphlets when you enter the schoolhouse to take home is great. The only drawback is the space for everything is small and not like i remember back when i visited in grammar school. Part of the room is closed off as well as the basement. But it is still interesting to visit and spend and hour or 2 there. No pictures are allowed to be taken inside. I was told the flash could discolor the toys and letters and such in the encased glass. However, I wanted a picture of the classroom scene. But I went along with what I was told and took pictures of the outside of the schoolhouse. There is no fee to visit and they are only open 2 Sundays every month so check the website before you visit. The times are from 2-4pm.Great visit for kids and adults of all ages. Historians that are on site in the schoolhouse extremely knowledgeable about Lyndhurst and will help with any questions you have. If they don't have a specific answer, they will guide you where to find it.
This place is a perfect description of how schools were years ago where everything happened in one room. Te placeis pretty much intact children will learn that in those years children had to work before they went to school as well as study after. There r not many places like these give yourself and children the opportunity to learn. It is a short visit and there is a park across the street.
WOW! to think that school was so much like "little house on the prairie" is funny. This school is just that, only cuter. It is a great place to visit to step back in time and appreciate the smaller things in life. This takes you to a time in life where everyone lived a real life.Such a great place to bring the kids, or a class trip to help them appreciate what they have education wise. Who knew that this was so close...
This was a amazing brief walk into history. The original school house is something that I have never experienced before. The display was to commemorate past military members of the United States and its allies. The information given by the members of the folks that are preserving this history was so interesting to hear. The children who were in the room were awe struck by the displays. I would recommend this to everyone. Good job.
