I lived very close to the Wallace house/Old Dutch Parsonage and I have visited many times. A very knowledgeable historian named Jim give great tours and is always great to chat with. The properties have a lot of interesting artifacts and are a nice reminder of the colonial history of New Jersey and the revolution and is well worth the visit.
The Wallace House and the Old Dutch Parsonage are definitely worth seeing. History buffs will really appreciate that they have been preserved for the viewing of modern-day visitors. Make sure you check the times when they are open if you want to go inside.
The Wallace House (and its neighbor the Old Dutch Parsonage) are wonderful examples of colonial living and a great experience to visit. General George Washington used the house as both his headquarters and residence during the the MiddleBrook Encampment of the Revolutionary War. The Wallace House is faithfully preserved and restored to its 1778-79 condition. The curator Jim Kurzenberger is a fountain of knowledge who is entertaining as well as educational. Although we mostly like to visit historic sites in the nice warm weather, late fall and/or winter presents a more realistic impression. Definitely worth a stop if in Central Jersey, but call ahead for hours.
