slim's woodshed and museum

Had a great time and really enjoyed chatting with the proprietor/artist. An experience I will never forget

This was our second visit to Slim's; we brought friends this time. After being diagnosed with MS around age 39, and with a prod from his daughters, he returned to his early interest in wood carving. He was influenced as a boy by his neighbors, the famed Bily brothers, who carved amazing clocks (now viewable nearby in Spillville Iowa). In addition to his own carving, teaching, and supplies shop, Slim has amassed a huge collection of carved items (mostly wood) from around the world. If Slim is there when you tour the museum, he'll enjoy enhancing the stories the guides tell about some of the pieces!
