Went to Millner's for their Valentine's Day event with eight friends and we all had a fabulous time. It's a family-owned and run place and the owners are so welcoming and friendly and clearly want everyone to enjoy themselves. The place isn't fancy--long tables and food is served buffet style. It was only $22 for the meal which included pork loin, mashed potatoes, salad, veggies, chicken Alfredo, dessert, and a glass of one of their wines. Food is prepared by a local caterer. It was plentiful and tasty. The wines were very good and there are many choices. We all had a different favorite. I used to think Minnesota wineries only produced . sweet wines. Not so! The dry reds and whites were incredibly good. The meal was followed by some hilarious games that patrons could volunteer to participate in. After that--bingo (with unique games I guarantee you haven't played before) and with bottles of wine as prizes. What a hoot!!A down home, non-pretentious fun place to spend an evening. Every one of us had a great time and we will definitely return.
My then boyfriend found this place and we just loved it. Kept telling people and bringing bottles of wine as gifts. We eloped in the Florida Keys and really wasn't thinking about a reception. We decided later on to have one and have it there. Couldn't have been anymore perfect! Working with Don the owner and his family it was so easy. Food was fabulous! Our guests loved the venue and keep asking how we found the place. I wanted people to walk away with "this was nice", we got so much more. People wanting details on price etc... I not only married the man of dreams, had a gorgeous wedding on a beach at sunset and had a perfect reception. The day was perfect. Oh Valentine's Day... A case of wine from my husband. Does that tell you something?
You should go here. It's wonderful. The owner is great. I learned so much about wine. More than the previous 11 places I visited.
We do girls sat out with a locate limo service and go to local vineyards. this by far was the best we have been to. From the wines-which are some of the best- to the staff and there service. I will go back again and again for there wines and fun atmosphere!
Went here for a girls day out touring winery's. This was our first stop and by far the best!! The guy that was there was great! Like all the other reviews say there is a story behind every wine along with a song! The group of women that I went with all said we would be going back again! Can't wait to go again!
For New Years Eve some friends of ours and us spent an enjoyable evening at this quaint little winery. We spent and enjoyable evening with good food, great wine, and fantastic entertainment. This is the winery that introduced me to wines I love and can truly enjoy. I have searched for my entire adult life for a wine that I can enjoy and could never find. Jon Millner, the vintner gave me my first taste of a true sweet wine that he proudly makes and calls a real wine. His wines are of the best quality I've ever had, they are consistently good. I have 4 wines that I can call my favorites here. If you like sweets they have them, if you like dry, they have those also. Don Millner, Jon's father, is quite a comedian and if he is there he will entertain you thoroughly, especially during a wine tasting. If you are in the vicinity of Dassel, MN or Kingston, MN. or traveling south of Kimball, MN this is a must stop place.Check out their web site: http://millnerheritage.com/
We've stopped here a couple of times for their great Minnesota wine in the past, and had the added opportunity of a tour and wine tasting event through Groupon. Don was an absolutely fabulous tour guide through the wine making process, and he and John were amazing hosts during the wine tasting. They described each wine in terrific and meaningful detail, and gave a little family history lesson at the same time (even leading a little singing together). They really have a great variety of wines as well. Well worth the trip!
This beautiful winery is an absolute gem! I never expected to find such a great place in this area, but was surprised by the high quality of wine, the knowledgeable staff, and the awesome atmosphere. Winemaker and owner John Millner gave my friends and I a tour, led our winetasting, and had us all laughing the whole way through. We will definitely be regulars from now on! Millner Heritage has won us over. When you're there, be sure to try the Drága - completely delicious!
Our visit to Millner Heritage Vineyard and Winery made for a great afternoon. We went for the tasting and a glass of wine, not the tours. In spite of a crowded bar, service was great and staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed probably the best serving of cheese, crackers, sausage etc. that we have purchased at a winery. The price was right for all aspects of our visits. We were treated to live music as we enjoyed our wine and while they took a break, the founder, Don and the rest of the servers entertained with song. We would gladly visit in the future.
We recently visited the Millner Heritage Vineyard & Winery near Kimball, Minn. The tour provided by the owner of the winery was outstanding, information and extremely entertaining. He has a passion for his business and it definitely shows throughout the tour. We capped the tour with a nice tasting and rousing German sing-a-long at the bar. An unexpected tourist pleasure on Highway 15 in Central MInnesota.
The title is what they have on their bags and I certainly would agree. We had a Groupon that got us a complete tasting, a glass of wine for the tour and both tours.. a terrific Deal. Don the founder led the tours and he was both very informative plus being just a hoot! they broke up the two tours ( you could do tasting in between) so you didn't get information overload. It was a lovely fall day the thing was that they had finished harvest on Thursday so the vines were bare today. The wine has German or Hungarian names which reflects their heritage..most were on the sweet side partially because of the nature of Minnesota's grapes which tend to be acidic if you try to produce them dry. We got a bottle of little Itza and it's easy to see why it won so many awards it is not an off putting sweet wine and is very fruit forward. and a bottle of Nuhaus an unoaked red wine which my wife who doesn't like Minnesota red wine, liked. It made for a full and fun afternoon1
Located in Kimball, MN (south of I-94 on Hwy 15), Millner Winery was a lovely surprise! Easy to find, very clean and well-lit sample room plus annex for parties/other celebrations, beautiful grounds, and patio where you can sit with your wine samples/purchases and spend a lovely afternoon in wine country. We happened there on a day when they had free wine tasting, but their regular tasting prices (Five Table Wines $4, All Table Wines $8, Three Specialty Wines $2, or all their labels for $10) is still quite an affordable way to sample their wide range of Minnesota-grown wines. There's also a small menu for food items, we ordered the meat and cheese plate for $9 which we ended up sharing with others so it was quite ample....nothing fancy about the types of cheese and salami on the plate, but it shouldn't be as you want what you are eating to compliment the wine, not overshadow it. Their wines range from dry to sweet, white to red, include a sparkling wine and 2 types of ice wines. Prices on the day of our visit ranged from $11-$20 a bottle - any questions are quickly answered by either Don the Vintner or any of the capable and friendly staff. Small boutique onsite with wine-related items, and also winery and vineyard tours were available the day we were there. Their website is very informative, even listing locations throughout Minnesota where you can buy their wines or order online if you don't want to make the drive - but you would be missing their hospitality, knowledgeable staff, and a lovely drive through the country if you take the backroads along Hwy 55 instead of the I-94 freeway route. With one of us being a red wine fan and the other a white wine, we can recommend these delicious and affordable Millner Wines: Dry Red =Draga, Neuhaus, and Rona; Dry White = Freizeit; Medium White: Little Iza (2013 multiple award winner), Sailer, and rose-ish Naplemente....we haven't opened the Ice Wines yet, waiting for a special occasion but are confident they will be just as good as the rest of their wines. They also hold periodic festivals and bands and you can sign up on their website to receive newsletter notices. Can't wait to head back for their Octoberfest celebration!
My husband and I stopped and enjoyed a 5 glass tasting. While at the bar, the owner came over and introduced himself and made us feel very welcome. The wines were all delicious and we had a hard time deciding what to bring home! If you want to experience what a great Midwestern winery can be, visit Millners!
My wife and I made a recent stop to Millner Winery and had a wonderful time. The winery is off HWY 15 and super easy to access. The facility is beautiful inside and out. We had the opportunity to be served by a Spanish wine maker (Carlos) who was here learning about cold weather grapes. After a short time we met the owners/winemakers and learned a ton about their heritage, their vineyard, and the stories behind their grapes. Behind each label is a beautiful story and a pleasant tasting wine! Comparing the MN wines I have sampled, Millner makes some wonder sweet varieties. Their prices are fantastic! Buy their mix case and receive 30% off??!! Incredible value!Stop in for a tasting and split their cheese and sausage plate. Thank you for the wonderful visit! We will be back soon!
Napa Valley it isn't, but then this isn't California! The owners have done a nice job of making the outdoor lounging area very attractive. There is also quite a large area indoors. While I was there today, there was a band playing and some people dancing. The employee that waited on me was a delight! Can't wait to try the wine. This winery is easy to find as it is right on Highway 15, south of Kimball. I'm not sure if they serve food, as I just stopped there to pick up wine on my way home from northern Minnesota.
