Hayes Lake State Park is a Great place to visit. This is one of the best state parks to visit. It maybe far up north but is is one of the prettiest places to visit in the fall. This park is so quite you will always have piece and quite. It has electric for campers and their is also other areas near by that are nice to see Bemis HIll.

This little park doesn't have very private campgrounds. There isn't a lot of space seperating campsites. The dam is cool and the trails through the woods are secluded. Overall there isn't a lot to see here. It seems like a great lake to bring a canoe or some kayaks to. It was very buggy and rainy when we came through Labor day weekend.

Great little state park. Hiked a few trails and of course over the dam but when we got to the forested area, we were swarmed by the mosquito's, but that was because it was early in the morning. Saw a few deer and lots of frogs along the route too.

We used to live a few miles from this park and loved to visit weekly. The park will need a state tag to visit but they are very reasonable (approx 30 for a year or 6-7 for a day/weekend pass). Boats are only allowed trolling motors so it's always a quiet getaway. The dock off the campground next to the bathroom is where we taught our children to fish as there are usually quite a few small fish to catch there so boredom rarely sets in. There are hiking trails, a swimmimg beach, fire pits, screened in gathering space, campgrounds (or rustic cabins if you prefer not to sleep on the ground), and canoes and kayaks for rent at reasonable prices. All in all, its a great place to take your family for a little nature and relaxation (just remember the mosquito repellant & make sure it's the strong stuff).

This is a beautiful park. My hubby and I had a great time hiking and fishing, as well as relaxing in the peaceful dusk around the campfire. The campsite bunnies were friendly. Judging by the size of the bears we saw in trophy pictures, bunnies were not the only fat and happy wildlife in the area. Hubby carried a hatchet on our hikes just to be safe... Like it would have done any good! Lol. Remember to pack bug spay by the gallons. Minnesota mosquitoes are more ninja than bug. They hover around you until your bug spay wears off, then game on! One even HID in our luggage, and on the way home, popped out and attacked...two states away. But brave the pests - this campground is worth it. The staff was great, the grounds clean and peaceful with tons of green space and wilderness. Just know that if you rent one of the beautiful cabins, some only come with pit toilets and no water. But again, the peaceful mornings and rustic privacy make the cabin stay totally worth it! Families with any kids old enough to hike, fish, read quietly, or stargaze will love this camp. It is an outdoorsman's paradise. But if your family needs big city or electronic entertainment or sights, this probably isn't the best trip for you. It is also great for a quiet, relaxing romantic getaway.

Like to take kids here for swimming. The dam is interesting, but the trails can be pretty thick w/ mosquitoes. The geocaching here is fun! I only gave it four stars because there is an historical hiking trail there where you can visit old remnants of homesteads. Kids and I tried to find the trail, but weren't successful. We still had fun exploring along some other log roads and paths, but really would have liked to find the trail we set out to hike. We try to go here at least once a year. They have canoes, too!

Small lake, really nice and quiet, fishing is just ok, you won't catch any monsters. Swimming is fun. Overall just average

This park is one of those unexpected gems in so called "out of the way places". Located adjacent to the Beltrami State Forest it affords greater opportunities for traveling well-groomed forest roads. A great place for fishing, swimming, picnicing, trail walking, bird watching, and camping, and in winter months for ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.Dewey's store and gas station is conveniently located close to the park entrance.Be aware that a daily or seasonal state permit is required for entry to and use of the park.
