We were lucky enough to take in the view on a gorgeous fall day. My son loved climbing the rocks and my daughter liked the friendly chipmunks. Take the time to pull off 61 and drive up. There were some rock climbers too. If you are a climber. This would be a great place to do it.
I read reviews of this lookout point and they didn't lie. This is truly spectacular view of Lake Superior.
This is a must stop! Amazing views. If you are lucky, you will get to watch as the more adventurous come climbing over the cliff after repelling down to the lake. Very steep drive with some times narrow road.
We just stumbled upon this. It is posted on the road as Palisades Head. Sheer beauty when you reach the top. Drive up the very narrow drive and park at the top NOT at the bottom. be very careful as there is NOTHING to keep you from falling 900 ft. into Lake Superior. Is is soooo worth the stop. On a clear day you can see across to the apostle Islands. Shovel Point is beautiful off to the North.
This attraction is actually named Palisade Head. This is definitely not a place for children. The rocks are extremely slippery, and there are sudden drops over sheer cliffswith no safety barriers whatsoever. For adults, however, it provides a great photo op.It is only a few hundred feet from the highway, and there is no admission fee.
The fall colors were spectacular, in 2012, from this vantage point. Be sure to bring your binoculars as well as a camera with a telephoto lens. You also need a polarizing filter to get the best pictures of Shovel Point. 'Don't miss this lovely spot.
Do NOT pass by this. This is one of the most beautiful locations in all of Minnesota. This location is free and an amazing sight. It's a little dangerous if you have little kids that like to run around to remind then to stay nearby because there's no railing over the drop. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL, a MUST stop!!!! You can do this spot in under 30 minutes and you'll be very glad you did!
A great view of Shovel Point & nearby Tettegouche State Park. (and it's free) you'll often find rock climbers scaling the cliff side. Portions of the movie "The Good Son" we're also filmed here.
The Palisade Head is my favorite place on the entire North Shore of Superior. It is a park, but most people do not know it is there or worth the stop. The overlook is FABULOUS!!
