Telaya Wine Company is tucked back behind a nondescript strip mall is off lovely Chinden Boulevard in Garden City (wink). Honesty, if you were driving by you probably would think it's a dive and continue on. Don't! Telaya is a really lovely tasting room. Outstanding wine for a nominal price and a cool atmosphere to hang out in. They don't serve food, but they encourage you to bring your own. Bring cheese and crackers, bring lunch or dinner, but just come and experience what they have to offer.Wine snobs that we are, we have been pretty meh about Idaho wine, in general. Time for me to put away my prejudices and drink up! This is really drinkable, affordable, lovely wine, that can give Washington and Oregon a run for their money. And for an added incentive, Telaya shares space with Cinder and Coiled, also noteworthy winemakers in their own rights, so you can taste 3 totally different companies' styles while you are there. Win. Win. Win.Gems like this cannot stay in business without support. Come. Drink the wine. See for yourself. Then if you like what they have to offer, join their clubs for an opportunity to meet other winos (wine lovers) and supporters of an amazing wine culture developing in southern Idaho.
Telaya Wines are awesome! We were so excited to find this vintner. Although the grapes are currently sourced mostly from Washington, the winemaker/owner (Earl) is transitioning to using more Idaho fruit. After spending nearly an hour chatting with Earl and learning his background, passion, and approach to making wine, we are certain that he has a bright future in the wine world. We liked all of his wines; there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. The tasting room is in a warehouse in Garden City (a neighborhood/area within Boise). It is shared by 3 wineries that seem to have a very friendly, cooperative, interactive relationship. Wine production takes place in the warehouse, too, so you can get a peek of wine being made as you wander around with your tasting glass. A very fun, casual experience where you also get a chance to chat with the winemakers themselves because they are the ones working their tasting counters. A highly recommended stop!
