Now I don't want to say this was the worse play I've ever seen, but it was definitely the most boring. We travel through Logan, UT occasionally and I heard about this Pickleville Playhouse playing at Ellen Eccles Theatre during the holidays. We showed up and there was a fun and merry crowd. As we looked around you could see the occasional group wearing mustaches that is associated with the Juanito Bandito character. I was excited to watch a fun Christmas show and get to know this famous Juanito Bandito.Instead of a fun Christmas show I could barely keep awake. That's not to say the actors weren't trying their best. I could tell they were doing everything they could to make up for such a poorly written play. The humor was for the most part clean, probably PG-13, but the jokes seemed to be written for teenagers rather than a national audience. A lot of slap stick humor and falling on the floor. If you are looking for a fun playhouse I would skip this one especially if you have younger kids. If you are looking for a boring night where you could fall asleep in peace, then this is the place to be. Since your neighbors will be sleeping too.
I didn't know if I would like it never experience a play before and I was so glad I bought the tickets. I have been five years in a row now and don't see it ending anytime soon. Fun for the whole family!
Once we discovered this playhouse a few years ago we haven't missed a summer! The show is family friendly and is the funniest show I've ever seen. The Davis brother that plays Juanito Bandito is like Robin Williams with a family filter! His interactions with the audience are so enjoyable and his humor is current and sharp. They are a talented bunch of kids!
This was a great musical comedy written and directed by the star. It was very entertaining for adults and families. Everyone lauged, clapped and roared. Take the time to see it.
If you are looking for a family friendly place then pickleville playhouse is the place to go. My family and I go here every year to see Juanito Bandito which is the best show ever. Every show is different due to the get improve through out the show. This place is the place to go for comic relief. Guaranteed you will laugh your head off for sure.
Of all the places to expect good music and staging, Garden City next to Bear Lake, would be low on the list, but this Playhouse is above and beyond the average. Preformance of "Beauty and the Beast" was done professionally and totally intertaining. The Singing was great. The only drawback was the seating and view of the stage . We also had the dinner combination ticket and the food was very good. These dinner and theather tickets were abt $40 each.
This is the first time we have been to a play at the Pickleville Playhouse. We absolutely loved both plays, Beauty and the Best and Who Shot Juanito Bandito. We thought that the acting was wonderful, especially for a small town theater. I would definitely drive the 2 1/2 hours from Salt Lake City again to see another play. We also ate their dinner after. It was good. It is a little high priced for the show and dinner, but for special occasions it is well worth it.
Reminds me of most high school level musical theater performances except triple the price. The other shows might be better but I would skip Juanito bandito. Totally campy, corny, pointless plot. Just a series of pop cultural references intermingled in a broken storyline.
Our family of 4 visited on a weekend - watching performances of both current musicals. The shows are among the best productions in Utah. The acting is top-notch - they even will let you talk with them and take pictures with them after the performances. The facilities are somewhat cozy, but that is not a negative at all here! You get the sense that they are all personally invested in giving you your money's worth. Both shows this year - Beauty and the Beast and Who Shot Juanito Bandito - have some of the most memorable characters and stay as true to the story as possible in such a small location. Our family personally loves the Bandito shows!! Totally Entertaining!!We will definitely be back, and we recommend you go too!
Great summer fun for the whole family! This summer playhouse puts on great productions! Saw both Beauty and the Beast and Who Shot Juanito Bandito. We really enjoyed both! They also have a cookout. The food is delicious and reasonably priced.
We've attended Bandito performances at Bear Lake and Logan, and the Christmas show in Salt Lake, and always enjoy the shows. Well written, very funny, and appropriate for any and all ages. If you are visiting Bear Lake, don't miss it! This summer's cast includes a couple of actors from the Utah Shakespeare Festival's "Shakespeare-in-the-Schools touring cast -- can't wait to see this year's shows!
We enjoyed a great steak dinner and show on opening night. The acting and performance was first rate. We are from PA traveling up to Yellowstone. It was a well planned stop over.
I have seen shows at the Playhouse for 5+ years and always enjoy the music, laughter, and high-energy performances. A talented cast of regulars plus new faces keep the programs fresh and exciting. This is a casual venue and family friendly so there are occasional "interruptions" by young audience members who are restless, tired, sunburned and/or cranky but most patrons are well behaved.Book tickets early for the "big" holiday weekends. The website is excellent and offers online ticket sales.
Fun, casual and definitely entertaining. Good home-town musical entertainment. Everyone should see Bandito.
This playhouse has some very talented and clever writers and performers for their own Juanito Bandito continuing sagas as well as their take on other works such as Forever Plaid. We've gone to the same show a couple of times with different family members and due to the ad libbing that was going on somehow we got to the end but our sides ached from all the laughter - crazy guys and gals. The shows are family fare with very good music for oldsters, boomers, Xers and modern with amazingly some fun rap thrown in (didn't know it existed). We are going to see their Christmas production in SL or Logan.
