I have often passed this temple, but did not realize it was a welcoming and beautiful place to visit. After reading another advisor's review, I decided to stop by and peruse the grounds. Not only is the temple beautiful from passing by, but the ornate time and thought put into this place of worship was most intricate. Much detail has been injected into the uplifting and artistic detail. Overall this was a most unique insight into the Buddhist culture.
Approach Stones River National Battlefield from the north on Old Nashville Pike, or drive a bit north from the battlefield. Suddenly, a surprise appears: A small but brilliantly colored elaborate Buddhist Temple! Totally unexpected in the middle of Civil War history and Tennessee farms, but just beautiful. Brightly painted pagodas, gold statues, flowers everywhere. It is also a cremation cemetery, but they welcome a respectful drive-through. I'm sure you'd be welcome to get out and enjoy the statues and garden (a little offering to a statue might be nice, just out of respect). I don't know yet if they welcome visitors inside, but I intend to find out :-). I only briefly spoke with a monk who was very gracious.
