They are a great place to bring kids. They change the exhibits upstairs every month so you never know what to expect but it's alw fun. They have wooden trains for the kids to play with, a Lionel train that runs 2-3 times a day, a big slide that takes you to the lower level, a tiny toy town for the younger kids & babies including a padded tumbling area, a water playing station, live animals, plus outdoor exhibits. Lots of fun!
The Discovery Center offers families with children a highly creative and interactive experience through multiple displays and learning centers. Well worth everyone's time
The trains don't start on time. There are missing pieces in exhibits. The exhibits themselves are old or out of order. This place needs a major overhaul.
This is a bright, attractive place where kids are free to be kids. The exhibits are almost entirely hands-on and cover a very wide range of interests for both boys and girls. It is possible that your child could get wet, sweaty, or find some paint very creatively placed on their clothing or on their noses, so dress appropriately. There is also a gift store where you can purchase games, puzzles, toys, etc. Best to keep the little ones out of here. As a tip, wait until you have at least two hours to spend before coming here. The kids, and you, should love it.
Very educational!!Great for younger children!!A little bit of everything to peak all interest levels.
I've taken my grandson (and occasionally a buddy) to Discovery Center many times over the past seven or so years when he visits from out of town. He absolutely loves to go there and there's always something different to interest him. There's wildlife (you can pet a snake), classic cars, a make-believe supermarket, a water feature (which never fails to entertain), a fire engine, car you can work on, a wonderful model railroad, demonstrations, a historic spring on the grounds and something new every time we go. Recently, there was a fascinating display about The Black Plague. The attractions are designed to appeal to a range of ages, and I have to admit that I enjoy them at my August age. The Discovery Center is a real asset to the Murfreesboro community and if you have kids or grandchildren you need to entertain, you can't go wrong.
Very nice clean facility. The lady at the reception desk was super friendly. Lots of neat exhibits for the kids to interact, learn and play in. Very educational. The model train wasn't running when we were there but it was very cool to look at. Spend a couple of hours or take all day!
Great place to take the family. Great exhibits and items for all to enjoy. Ball pit is fun and a great opportunity for pictures. Love learning and a great family experience. The building is tucked away off the road, very peaceful a welcomed change to the hustle of the city.
My daughter (3yrs) loves going and it is a perfect place for the 5 and under crowd especially when they have new exhibits. The Curious George exhibit was a lot of fun and we were sad to see it go. I took my older nephew (8yrs) and the exhibit was not there so not a lot of offerings for him but he enjoyed playing with his cousin. They have a play area outside and an area to walk around (like a nature trail). We have seen river otters and other natural wildlife just walking around.
The whole place is filled with activities for learning for children. Lots of things to experience "hands on".
The Center is great for children 11 and under but what I really liked are the wetland trails that are above water and very nice . Plus there is the original fresh water springs that feeds it all and is where Mufreesboro used to get all their water from when it was being settled. Very Cool and it still runs 100's of gallons of water even today.
This is great for small kids. They could use some updating and maybe add some new things to keep it fresh.
We come here often. It is really geared for toddlers up to about age 10. This place doesn't really offer much for kids older than that. My 3yr old absolutely loves this place. He always asks to go. He loves the retired fire truck downstairs and he plays with the large water feature. There is a slide at the top of the stairs that drops off near the water feature. The model trains upstairs only runs 2-3 times a day- so sometimes you will miss it. The little door going into the model trains room is cute for toddlers, but an adult can't squeeze through very easily - so that can make for some running around because you walk around into the train room, then your child scoots back through the little door, of course. Some of the exhibits have been broken for a while and it's a shame that they don't get fixed. My son asks why all the buttons on the train set do not work. There is a wonderful antique car upstairs to sit in. Across from that is a garage where kids can fix up the car. My son really likes the construction vehicles he can operate and the large building blocks on the other side upstairs that go up a conveyor belt. We always spend a good 2 hours here, and if we have time, we walk in the wetland areas outside. Tickets are inexpensive and you can get an annual pass.
Great for kids 10 and under! My grandchildren love to visit the Discovery center and it's a good place to have birthday parties that are more about learning and exercise and less about toys and food! Room for adults to maneuver around and learn a bit, as well! Good value, clean and fun afternoon for children'!
I am new to Murfreesboro and was curious as to what the Discovery Center is. I didn't go in the Children's Museum (which looked very to be very popular), but I walked on the boardwalk exploring about 25 acres of serenity in the way of a marsh area. It was very quiet and the cypress trees were growing out of the water. There were ducks and ducklings, a variety of birds and turtles. Just a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy some nature. I recommend going to see it. There is no fee to take the walk, but the Children's museum has a very reasonable admission.
