This is a two mile hike that is a loop trail that goes by many old mines in the Gold Field mining district. As one reviewer said, bring water - the sun feels strong at this elevation. There are various story boards along the way - take as much time (or as little) to read and imagine. An awesome thing to do - in the morning the wind can be cool - even in the summer - so I recommend a jacket.
This would be a good trail to take early in the day when it's cooler. In the afternoon it's pretty hot. Bring water definitely. It takes you by the old Vindicator Mine. Not sure how long it is. We didn't take the whole thing.
...to century-old mining equipment. A good place to start on this trail is at the entrance to the American Eagle Overlook. A ways up the road is a turnoff to the left where you'll see a head frame, an ore building, a couple of deserted buildings (one a house, one an office?). You're free to walk around and get fairly close to much of the equipment. You'll also see a small cement/brick building; that was a powder magazine for the explosives used to blast in the mine. Highly recommended. There's a hiking trail that starts here and apparently goes for quite a distance.
