We stopped by Avery's new facility on the North side of town about a week after it first opened to the public in February. While they had not fully commissioned the new brewing operation yet, you can see it from the overhead gallery windows. Apparently tours will be basically self-guided "looks" when they are operating. What is very nice is the new upstairs retail area, bar and cafe. Apparently these are much more extensive (and fancy) than the old location (which we never visited). We did not eat but others were commenting on how good the food was. We did spend some time sampling at the bar. There was lots to enjoy, primarily focusing on stronger ales. While they had about a dozen of their "standard" beers there were also about another dozen that you can only get at the brewery. Staff was very friendly and informative on this weekday afternoon. Most enjoyable!
THANKFULLY chose Avery of ALL of the breweries in Boulder to check out on my one day there. I mean I am sure others are awesome but Avery was off-the-beaten-path.. kinda like speakeasy-ish which I liked and was jammed packed this past Sunday and without any TV's. I guess in part because of the special beer release they were having but really... packed! The guy who helped us (wish I could remember his name) was super cool and helpful at the back bar and took great care of us in every way. The bourbon brew was stronnnnggg and yummy and so were most of the others. I didn't like the sours but I hear that is an acquired taste! Really just loved this place and the whole experience.
Not really a tour, more like an informative speech, while standing and then sitting in one place. We arrived early enough to have a beer before the tour and our waiter was Awesome!! The enthusiasm reverberating from this place is contagious! Hold off if you can and go to the new state of the art brewery opening soon, but make sure you enjoy one of their hoppy beers along the way.
In visiting the Avery mother ship, I was excited by the prospect of trying all their taproom exclusives. They didn't have as many as I would have liked to see, but they had a few. Of them, my favorite was the 14er ESB. That said, nothing beets a fresh Maharaja (imperial IPA)—without a doubt one of the best beers I've EVER had. As for the service, it was definitely lacking. Still, I tried buy a t-shirt. I'm still waiting....
Nice stop in Boulder after a morning of hiking. LOLThe brewery was a little hard to find without the gps. They have a nice sampling bar inside and cute picnic tables out front. The tastings will cost you $1.50-2:00 each. The beers were great and food is available for sale. The sweet potato tots were amazing!
Avery makes some of my husbands favorite beers, so this was a "Must" for us during our vacation. The tours are free daily, but they are first-come, first-serve and you need to sign in to secure your spot. I would recommend arriving 20-30 minutes early and ordering a couple of beer samples before going on the tour. Maybe even sooner than that for the weekend tours and have some lunch beforehand. The brewery is small, so the tour doesn't really involve too much, but they are building a bigger facility which I assume will be a little more involved as far as the tour goes. Our guide was very informed and entertaining. You get a free sample of beer when you are on the last leg of the tour in the barrel room. Ladies (and gentlemen that like a non bitter brew), try the Lilikoi Kepolo. It is sweet but not overly sweet like a cider. I wish I could get my hands on more of it! After the tour we had some nachos because we were feeling the effects of all that delicious beer, and they were nothing to write home about. My husband did say that he really liked the green chili that was on top though. Overall, this was an excellent experience and if we lived in the area we would be frequent visitors!! Locals, count your blessings for having quality brewers like this right in your backyard!
Very busy place on a beautiful day. They give hourly tours for free, we sipped our small beers while walking the tour. Not a beer drinker like the people I was with but found the white rascal enjoyable. Portobello mushroom cap burger was very good. A bit disappointed to be served chips as a side dish but I guess the salt would lead to more drinking!
Tastings, eating, laughing.....telling stories...My daughter suggested this Boulder brewery since we were staying locally and had tried their products in a upscale historic hotel bar we were staying in. We had been to Denver a day earlier trying microwbrews, so this seemed a possibility too.-young crowd-but nothing for us to feel uncomfortable about-Waitstaff was friendly, attentive.....and found out that through chatting, the waitress went to the same high school as my fiancé-decades later-small world-fun to listen to shared teachers (how could THAT happen?). She was adorable and a delight! Quick witted when challenged with instigation of "Go Gladiators!!" Smart woman, she was, she corrected that decades earlier fellow alumni man by reminding him, the teams were cougars.! Ha!What a great way to spend a snowy afternoon.Drinking White Rascal. I've found a beer I love....a veggie burger with fries to die for, daughter too had a burger with the real thing between the patties and gyros were okayed by the fiancé'. No regrets-fun to be in the midst of others just looking for a fun time while trying some beers. We're coming again.
Off the beaten path, you'll have some fantastic beer here and want to keep coming back for more. Everything from pale ales to IPA's, stouts and special additions, they have a variety to please everyone and the best part is that they are all good! Karma is a MUST try!
Get Avery beers you can't buy in stores and taste a range of great beers. Food is so so, provided by a catering company across the street. Staff is friendly. Depending on when you go, it can be very busy and hard to get a table, especially outside on a nice afternoon. Great access from the bike paths if you're biking and beer tasting. Check out Twisted Pine and Fate Brewing nearby too.
We come to Colorado every fall and this was our second visit to Avery Brewing Company. We love their beer and their food was great too! They have nice outdoor seating area and a really neat back room where they tap beer too. Love Avery Brewing!
We stopped by Avery after a meeting in Boulder. I am a fan of great beer and this did not disappoint. The selection of beers was outstanding! The server was fantastic and took their time explaining some of the beers that are only available at the Tasting Room. They had outdoor seating or indoor. We decided to order lunch and I was surprised how good the food was for a tasting room. We split a Gyro, which was plenty of food for two. If you are even close to Boulder I would recommend stopping by Avery. Great Beer and Food!
My son insisted that we had to visit this smallish brew pub located in the outskirts of Boulder, CO. We were so glad we did. The beer was amazing, and has become a new favorite. We really appreciated the chance to order 4-ounce tasters ... since we weren't previously familiar with all the varieties, that was helpful and fun. We also enjoyed the relaxed Boulder atmosphere, and we even got a chance to snag some take out for my son (who wasn't with us, but had highly recommended it!).
Love this place. I'm from Milwaukee and visited Boulder for a few days. I really wanted to do a brewery tour while I was there, and Avery's schedule worked best with ours, so we went. So happy we did. We went on a Tuesday and there were probably around 20 people in our group. The tour guide was enjoyable - good sense of humor and knew what he was talking about. The tour was fun (albeit hot) and I even learned a couple things which I didn't expect (purely based on the number of tours I've been on in other places). Most importantly though, the beer is so delicious. They seem to really like to have fun with the beer and see what they can come up with. I tried a chai brown ale while I was there, something I've never heard of before, and it was quite tasty. The employees were all very knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy to be there and help you out. I would love to go back and try more of their beers in the future.
The tour was interesting and you finish with a sample. They really should have more than one tour a day so they can be smaller. Food was good, catered from across the street. Not easy to find as it is off the street, so use your GPS.
