my 4 year old loved the dress up and the coloring / creative area. TINY. Its not like a big city kids museum but it was enough to entertain my daughter for more than an hour and she would have stayed longer
We were at Breckenridge during a monster blizzard. And needed to take the kids somewhere that wasn't outside. This Museum fitted the bill. The kids gave it two thumbs up from each of them.
Besides their day offerings they also offer a fabulous kid's club for New Year's Eve with lots of games and activities. This year it was $20 per hour and $12 for a sibling. My daughter asks to go every year.
This is a nice place to go with your children. Ages 3-7 is probably appropriate. There are many different areas to explore and even do experiments. There are an art, dress up, medical science, train and marble track areas. We came back for another couple of hours in the afternoon!
The place is small but it sure kept our kids aged 2 1/2 & 14 months busy and neither wanted to leave. They had a nice little area for tots with nice toys wich was very exiting, they haven't seen toys in a week while out on vacation. They had a great & very well stocked area to make arts & crafts, nice area to play with cars & construction equipment. They did have things for older children which we didn't really check out, but I think 6 would be the oldest age. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area with kids. The only complaint we had was that it was very hot in there & no AC, but they are a non profit so I guess they have to conserve
This children's museum is small, but very fun! My 2 year old had a lot of fun and it was great for him to have some play time on a busy vacation. The price seemed high at first, but she said you can come and go throughout the day. Great location next to shopping and restaurants right in downtown breck. There is also a nice selection of mostly organic snacks.
We have come to Breck many times and finally checked out the Children's Museum this summer and I was blown away. They have a lot of things to do in a small space and perfect for our son who is 2 1/2. I literally had to drag him out! Everything is very interactive and allows the kids to just play. I had fun being a "patient" at the pretend hospital and "riding" in the helicopter. They also had an interesting light exhibit. Highly recommend.
WE should have done more research as this place is more targeted to 3-4 year olds than 7 and 9 year olds. We figured they are children so there would be something for them to do! Well, there were some interesting things for them but, it was all over very quickly. The activities are completely hands on and I would say would be better for 2-4 year olds. I wish they would have told us that all of the activities are for younger kids as we would have made a different decision. I think if our kids were younger, we would have given this a better rating.
At first glance, this museum hardly looks impressive. However, once you go in, you realize it is well worth the cost of admission. We actually relented and took her back the next day (day 2 of our 2 day trip) and she had just as much fun and was just as sad to leave. My daughter is 6, and we are members at the Children's Museum of Denver, and still, she found so much joy in this little gem. She has since our visit been identifying scat we see from the exhibit there, and the science area has some legit science experiments. I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone with kids!!
We spent an rainy afternoon at the Children's Museum with our 2.5 and 5 year old, and they absolutely loved it. It's very intimate, with a lot to do for young children, including an arts and craft station, a light room, science area, dress-up area, and various other themed areas. Grandparents received free admission, and Laura, who worked to found the non-profit Children's Museum, was very welcoming, and took time to speak with us while the children were playing. It was the perfect place to come with the kids to wait out the inclement weather, and definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a kid friendly activity while in Breckenridge.
We spent a couple hours here and still didn't get to all of the activities. I liked the variety including crafts, construction, & pretend. It would be nice if it included some that were more active to run off some energy but overall my toddler had a great time. My baby might have liked the section for smaller kids but since you have to stay with your child he just got hauled around. Advice... call in advance to see if your visit will overlap a birthday party. It was awkward being the only people there not invited over for cake.
The exhibits change often, the people who work there are amazing. It's inexpensive enough for a family to go, and you can leave for lunch/nap and come back in the afternoon if you want :-) Any child from crawling age up until pre-teen will have a great time here. It's not very big, the city-goers shouldn't be expecting a children's museum like that! It's quaint, but well laid out and enough for your child to enjoy for a few hours at least.
Our 18 month old twins came here after a morning of walking around downtown. They are too young to understand all of the exhibits, but they were able to play with almost everything. The Wonder Lab area included a cool black light area where they could use light to write on a board, they loved making music with the cascading marble tree, fished on the bridge, "flew" the helicopter, spent time in the bear cave, checked out the train table and sand tables, and played dress up. They spent a little time in the young children's area with a slide and lots of toys, but really just enjoyed running around from exhibit to exhibit. The great thing about this place is that your admission is good all day, so you can play a little, go shopping, get lunch, or go for a gondola ride, then come back and play some more. The educational descriptions for each exhibit are not always obvious if you are trying to go through each lesson with your child, but the staff member on duty when we were there was very helpful and personable, so just ask questions!Be aware that stroller parking is outside, but there is plenty of space as the museum is set in an area with plenty of covered sidewalk that is far from the street.
It seems overpriced for a place where the parent has to supervise their own children. The Breckenridge library is probably a better value and experience.
I called before our recent trip to Breck to see if they were scheduling any parents night out. She took my name and said she would call me back when they had at least 3 kids to run the night. She called me back a couple of days later and said it was a go! Awesome! Asked what kind of dinner my daughter wanted and we were all set. We dropped her off for her night so we could have ours. She really enjoyed herself, made friends and had a good time. Cute place, lots of hands on activities and plenty to keep busy. If they do not have a parent's night posted on web site, call and see if they will start a list. That is how we got to do it, very accommodating.
