We had a wonderful drive around the lake and country side. The lake was frozen over but really enjoyed the country. The mountain views were amazing and makes you want to live there.
We've visited a few times. Fishing is nothing special and it's pretty cold for water sports. Not as pretty as other places in Colorado
Hired snowshoes for the first time & went here with my daughter-in-law. Really helpful guy at the visitor centre who pointed us in the right direction. The snowshoe paths were well laid out (there were plenty of cross-country ones too) and we spent a wonderful couple of hours enjoying the magnificence of the scenery, overlooked by Mount Hahns. Breathtaking. Went off the path once to have my photo taken and spent a hilarious 5 minutes sprawling in the snow! Everytime I tried to get up my hand, arm, knee, foot just sank. My daughter-in-law was in fits.
We really enjoy driving to the lake. Our dogs enjoy it during the summer months. It's fun to camp or even go for a day.
This was great place. No matter where you looked there was a beautiful scene. The lake is huge. The day we were there it was very windy so just drove around It
Camped at Steamboat Lake State Park for 10 days in July. We were in the Dutch Hill campground. Beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The shower/laundry building was nearby and well-equipped. The pit toilet within the campground circle was absolutely atrocious, needed to be emptied badly. We rarely saw the camp host. Park Rangers did drive through occasionally.
We decided to drive from Steamboat Springs and visit the Steamboat Lake State Park. We intended to rent a kayak and kayak around the lake. When we arrived at the boat house it was closed. We finally called the Park headquarters to see when it would be open. We were informed that the boathouse was closed for the season, although there was nothing in their literature and no sign on the door to that effect. We had a picnic, and then hiked around part of the lake. It was beautiful, even though we had come to kayak. People we talked to who were putting in their own boat said that they were catching beautiful rainbow trout. So, if you go in the fall, check ahead to see if the rentals office is still open, or be prepared to hike.
This was probably my favorite outdoor site that we visited while in Colorado. We must have picked the best time ever to visit because the leaves were changing and there were not many people around at all. We were able to pull right up to a beautiful little picnic area and enjoy the scenery all by ourselves for at least 30 minutes. Probably would have been longer but we decided to move on because there was so much to see. Unfortunately because of the time when we traveled, some of the local restaurants in the area weren't open but I would trade that for the peace and quiet we were able to experience. It truly is beautiful!
We did the Tombstone trail which was very easy and scenic. I wanted to do the Gilpin trail because I understand its the most scenic, next time.
Trout fishing, hiking, beautiful scenery. Quiet and relaxing. Fish up to 20 inches. Boating launch for large and small boats available. Campe sites available. Natural earth dam. Nature at its best.
we brought our own kayak and had a great day not that many places to eat if you are early inthe day so bring snack. or stop at the local town on your way in. the lake was quiet and its bigger than you think.so pace your selves .. you can easily stop on any part of the shoreline and the water looked inviting but we didn't swim.
We had two families vacationing in Steamboat and decided to rent a pontoon one day. Scheduled four hours and ended up extending it. It was a little pricey but worth it. The boat was in really nice, in good shape and clean and had a grill. The staff was very friendly, helped us load all our stuff, and give us the run down on the operation of the boat and the regulations on the boat. Cruising the lake, fishing and swimming was a lot of fun. Warning: the water was pretty cold in the middle of July. Steamboat Lake is at at high elevation and is very pretty and pristine. Had a great day.
A few miles out of Steamboat Springs. A very relaxing pontoon boat on Steamboat lake. Very accommodating people and a relaxing afternoon.
Were vacationing in Steamboat and on the advice of a friend decided to rent a pontoon boat for a couple of hours. They even had one with a gas grill. A two hour rental was a couple of hundred dollars but it was very relaxing just cruising around the lake. And a couple of hours is a perfect amount of time. The marina also rents other types of people powered watercraft. Make sure to call ahead to confirm availability.
the scenery was gorgeous, it was nice to escape and just fall asleep to the sounds of the wild. It is really close to Steamboat CO, and there are some great shops close by in case you forgot any supplies. Go to Clarks the people there are helpful and funny.
