Always have fun there. It is a small town track, and as such it is really very good. Up until this year I would have given it a 5. Four of us always go together at least twice a summer. And we get there and have lunch which is usually plain fare but pretty good. This year is was C**P. Their chicken tenders were always terrific, this year they are disgusting pressed chicken. One of the four ordered a cheese burger which was cold and fries that were cold and limp. The other two split a burrito that they said was pretty good. Now, keep in mind anything you order is $10. Including the disgusting four little pieces of nasty chicken. $10? Seriously. Go for the atmosphere, the horses, the racing. Do NOT eat the food. Eat before you go or sneak in your own.
We go here about once a year with my parents, my brother and his family. We're not big gamblers but we all usually put down (ie - lose) a few bucks with each visit and always enjoy ourselves. The building is not a dump by any means and has always had plenty of seating each time we visited. There is also a snack bar but it has the usual suspects like nachos, hot dogs, soft drinks, etc. I'd recommend eating before you come. The full cycle of horse races lasts approximately 3 hours +/-. My brothers kids aren't overly excited to be there but keep themselves entertained by viewing the horses up close prior to each race then watching them outside right as they cross the finish line. If you're even mildly curious and are looking for something to do one weekend afternoon, give it a try! Admission is like $3.
The horses were beautiful. The people watching was great fun. Entrance fees were $3 for adult general admission. We went in a group had had a great day at the races. Brochures at entrance do a great job of explaining how to wager for those that need the help (like me).
I've been to the Meadowlands, Monmouth Park and Saratoga Springs and this was the cleanest, least expensive and uncrowded horse track. It's just always a great place to bring people from out of town for some inexpensive betting/entertainment. Love it.
I've been to many tracks. This one is a little jewel tucked away in Aurora, CO. Very clean, comfortable and user friendly. The horses are not those you find at Saratoga or Santa Anita, but the racing is competitive and they also have a little simulcast area.
Had a few extra hours to spend so we drove out to the horse races. While adults can gamble, it's also a fun family outing. Races ran about every 20 minutes. Nice indoor seating or outdoors by the action. $3 admittance fee ($2 seniors and under 17 are fee) is reasonable and parking was free. About 10-15 minutes out of Aurora.
