The kids and I enjoyed a leisurely day spent among animals that one doesn't typically see. We were attracted to the venue originally as some of the animals came from a family member's zoo that was closed due to health problems with the family member - was great to see what a good home the animals would have (my son played with the baby wolves and other animals). The tractor ride was fun, with the driver being exceptionally friendly and fun. Great little park - a fun, relaxing day.
My friend and I had a great time. The directions could be better to get there. Better marked roads. It had just about every animal. It is not a gigantic place, but you can not expect to compare it with the Bronx Zoo. I think it is great to have something close by for the kids to enjoy. And I know how expensive it is to take care of all these animals. It cost me $2000.00 last year just for one dog. I hope it grows and stays and all the success to the owners they need our help.
This is a very CLEAN and friendly place to take kids. My autistic grandson loves it. We have been several times and never have been disappointed.
We will definitely be going back and telling everyone we know about this place! The animals are awesome and for a reasonable $5 per huge bucket of food you can feed them all! The zoo does smell a bit more intensely than your average zoo, but it is summertime and you are far closer to the animals than at other zoo's. The animals all seemed to be healthy and in good spirits, and appeared to be well adapted to being fed by patrons! The negative reviews for this place seem to have all been written by people that didn't make it past the parking lot, which is pathetic, how can you know whether the food is good at a hole in the wall restaurant based on the curtains hanging in the window? If that type of thing will drive you away, then you are better off staying home and leaving the truly rewarding places in life to those that will appreciate them. If you think that you are going to get the Bronx Zoo, all to yourself, for less than half the price, well, good luck with that. If you are looking for a great time for less than $20 and are willing to travel a bit, I can't think of anything better to do with a significant other or family than to plan a visit to this place. One thing worth mentioning though, as the NUMEROUS signs indicate, all of the animals here have claws, or teeth, or hooves to defend themselves if they are threatened, and they will use them. My shorts were nipped by a dinosaur-pig-duck while following it and its mate a bit too closely on our way to see the kangaroos. It was easily placated by taking another, slightly longer path, past several other very cool animals, and we both went on our merry way to enjoy the rest of the afternoon, no harm no.................fowl.
My daughters and I visit the Ashville Game Farm and Exotic Zoo a couple of times each summer. We love to interact with the monkeys. This is a small zoo, but you can spend the whole day there if you'd like. There is no feeling of being rushed out of there. The staff is very nice and friendly. They will answer and all questions that you have about the animals. This place has always been clean, yes there's birds that roam freely and there are droppings but theyget cleaned, animals are going to smell. I travel about an hour from my home in VT to go over and visit. This is a great little zoo out in the country.
I been here twice with my daughter, and the last time (most recent) took her friends. We had once again a really enjoyable time. The zoo is small but which is nice since you dont feel rushed on skipping through the animal exibits. The other great thing is its very quiet so you can enjoy your time interacting with the animals. I think we spend about 1 1/5 hrs just feeding the deer. I would strongly recommened this zoo to anybody who loves animals and wants to spend qualty time with their familys. Ps make sure you bring some extra $1.00 bills so you can feed the animals.
I liked being up close and personal to the animals. Surprisingly large array of exotic animals.
Don't waste your money it's terribly over priced and you will leave feeling depressed and kinda dirty. The mirada of animals are housed in tiny cages most made of what appears to be regular fencing (including bears and big cats) there are allot of animals just wondering around looking for handouts. We love Zoo's of any size but this place should just be closed down.
Wish I read this before we went. Owner was arrested-apparently an incident with a lemur and tiger attacking children!!!!!!http://poststar.com/news/local/article_a8fa2eea-09e4-11e0-a345-001cc4c03286.htmlWow! We were very excited to go to the "zoo" since the Bronx is a little too far away fro our 2 and 1 yr old kids. We got there about 10:30 am after driving through all kinds of back roads. When we pulled up there were a bunch of people working on their cars in what I think was the parking lot. There was also a pitbull walking off the leash ans well as some peacocks. I am not even sure if it was open. We saw the animals inside of a ratty old wood fence, but the gate was closed. We made the decision to not go in (whether it was open or not) as soon as we pulled up. Luckily it was a beautiful day and we went apple picking instead right up the road.
We decided to take my 2 yr old to the "zoo" while visiting Lake George. The advertisment in the Lake George Visitor booklet said it was a zoo with exotic animals, something I was sure my son would love. We drove quite a distance from LG, about 40 minutes. I was shocked that our navigation system even picked up these dirt roads that we had to take to get to this so called zoo. Nevertheless, we were able to find after being completely confused as to why this zoo was so deep in the middle of nowhere. We arrived to what looked like an abandoned shack. I wasnt sure exactly if we had the right place, so I got out of the car and went to the gate that was falling off the hinges and opened it. I immediately saw a rabbit walking around loose, then a few peacocks walked by. There was a little pond with several aligators in there. Then all of a sudden i was covered by bees. I am not exaggerating, there were tons of bees landing on my arms, hair and body. I was terrified. the place looked like a total dump so I can only imagine what the poor animals looked like. I refused to take my son out of the car after the bees, and I could not imagine having to pay $13.50 to get in there, so we turned right around. I go to Cape May NJ zoo all the time and its the cleanest, most beautiful zoo that is FREE. So happy we did waste our money based on prior reviews. Anyone who gave this place a positive review must be related to the owner or has never been to another zoo in their life.
for 1 my unlkle jeff owns the placd to some people that say thats its dissapoiting ur wrong ur not from around the counrty we can tell what do u exspect with animals of course its going to smell half of u havent even seen most of these animals where u come from and well i can telll u one thing he is very goood at takeing care of his animals he loves them alot... hes very good with animals and i want to be like him when i grow up cause he likes animals just like me
The Ashville Game Farm was a very rewarding experience. The animals were clean and in excellent condition. My children loved viewing the animals and feeding the goats and llama. Keep in mind that is a small game farm worth the price of admission. As an added bonus,we lucky to also see Jordan Bridges from Rizzoli and Isles at the game farm when we visited! Jordan was not connected with the game farm, he was just visiting too!
Great place!! I love being able to see the animals up close. With the feeding cups the animals come right up to you. At large zoos the animals are so far back in there enclosure, it was hard to see them. All the animals look happy and healthy, little tummies, nice fur or feathers. I got to hold a baby kangaroo, she is so sweat and her fur feels like silk. They have seven diff kinds of monkeys, you put food in the can and the monkey then pulls on the string to get the food (smart little guys). Then the monkey looks up as if to say thanks for the snack. The children were having a ball interacting with the monkeys. My favorite animal was a tie between the camel and the lynx. Then both looked so majestic. The staff was great, there was a worker in with the bear-cat, trying to clean and feed. The bear-cat wanted to play, he stop working to play with the bear-cat and told us all about this rare animal. A volunteer who gives tours stated “If one child saves one species of animals in the wild, my job is done”. The staff love what they’re doing and it shows. Go and see for yourself, the animals are GREAT !!!!!
I would like to express my gratitude to the ashville game farm and zoo for making the day with my children and grandchildren so much fun. Not only did we enjoy the relaxed family atmosphere you feel when you are there, but the kindness and information so readily available by the employees. My children and grandchildren were full of questions about the animals displayed at the zoo and the employees there were more than happy to answer them for all of us. I found the zoo to be very helpful in teaching the children about exotic animals and the fun and friendliness was an added bonus. Thank you for helping to educate myself and my family . Our family will be sure to be back often and would recommend others share this experience with their families.
