We go often and usually walk the four mile cliff walk along the water to the picnic area, a bit farther and turn around. It is very scenic, some of the views are breathtaking. This happens to be our favorite walk but there are many trails through the park that pass by the WWII concrete observation boxes, the front lines between us and them. There is also a long concrete wall that was used as a back stop for machine gun practice during both WWI and WWII.
Recently we visited this state park. We had been there two years ago, and enjoyed it enough that time to make us want to go back. The park is very neat, clean and well maintained. There are hiking trails throughout the woods and along the lakefront, which are well marked and taken care of. The most fun part of the park is to walk the trails along the cliffs and bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario. The views from these bluffs are just great and are definitely picture worthy. I recommend this park to any nature lover. We plan to return.
This is a state park that is not very well known. I had never heard of it before my friend recommended it to me and my husband. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and we were the only people there. It was a great hike! The Snakefoot trail is right on Lake Ontario and there are many overlooks out onto the lake and many places you can get right down to the lake. Trails are easily recognizable, which was helpful. Plus it has free parking (at least when we went.)
Amazing trails and views. You must experience this park! From the history, to the out buildings and beautiful cottages it was a fantastic experience that I am excited to share with friends and family. You can also ride your bike on the trails as well.
I had never heard of this state park, even while having family in Henderson Harbor and going up there frequently. A friend told us about this place, showed us some pictures and I was amazed. We went up with my girlfriends two dogs. It is definitely a dog friendly place, Robert Wehle was an avid hunter and raised dogs, there are statues and grave markers to some of his champions and even courtesy dog poop bags. The park definitely is new, only 10 years old, and it shows. It does not have the mature trails and infastructure of an older, more established park, but they have put in a great effort. We only had time to check out the trails that bordered the cliffs to the lake, and they were beautiful. Make sure to bring water for both you and your companions. There are great ledges to wade in either with yourself or your dog. This is a great park, a real hidden treasure. Highly recommend it.
This park was absolutely beautiful! Every step was another surprise. The views of Lake Ontario were breathtaking and so was the bursts of flowers and clear refreshing blue water! I would greatly recommend this to both hikers and photographers:)
