The movies, exhibits and displays in the library are terrific and well worth it. The tour is way over done, and the house is small and hard to move around. The entire house takes 10 minutes at most, and is nothing special. The guides do not even explain what the rooms are. But, to come to the library for free, walk the grounds, and enjoy the day, it was terrific!
If you want to get a feel for Hyde Park in the bygone days this is a stop you will want to make. Knowledgeable staff can help you. I recommend a Saturday or Sunday visit .
Visiting the home of FDR is a very worthwhile experience. The area and grounds, on the Hudson, is beautiful. The home, museum, and FDR library are fascinating. For those who know little about the history, it will be very informative. For those who do, there are numerous small facts and exhibits that are sure to tell you something new. The Vanderbuilt mansion, 2 miles away, is worth visiting as well. It is best to take an entire day for these visits, as there is so much to see.
Hyde Park is a do not miss of the Hudson River Valley. It was very interesting to hear about this great President, and to see how modestly (relatively speaking) he and his family lived (particularly by comparison to their neighbors, the Vanderbilts)! The two home juxtaposed speak legions about the two families.
A small museum with some interesting artifacts, but the key is the enthusiasm of the volunteers. If John is there you will love it!
