If you are in the area, great gift store, great pottery, wonderful events, great gallery, real community gem!!!
They had the adirondack watercolor exhibition while we were there, and the artwork was outstanding. My one complaint would be that most of the artwork is not by local artists, of whom there are so many outstanding ones.
The View is an architecturally striking facility that houses gallery spaces, rooms for meetings & classes, and larger areas that can accommodate receptions. The admission to the gallery exhibit area was $10--well worth the fee. The recent watercolor exhibit displayed a wide range of stunning paintings--portraits, abstracts, landscapes. Visitors were asked to cast a ballot for their favorite--an interactive element. The exhibits change regularly, and if the watercolor show was any indication of the high standards, any future show would be worth seeing.
I find that experiencing arts and culture events like concerts, theatrical productions, yoga classes, and art exhibits to be a wonderful juxtaposition of natural and human-created beauty. It is always a renewing experience to visit View. the facility itself is creative and beautiful inside and out. A great experience.
We toured the view to look at the paintings, it was a good fit after looking at the fall colors on the drive up to Old Forge. There was also a photo collection that we both enjoyed. It was $10 each to our the showing.
The View is a beautiful gallery. There was a watercolor exhibit there when we visited with some very nice works. The View also had another room devoted to the different animals in the Adirondack Region which included some stuffed animals and some great photography. There is also a small gift shop with reasonably priced items. We had to pay an admission fee of $10 each which might be reasonable for a museum but we felt was a bit much for a gallery.
I really enjoyed wandering thru this gallery. The art work was beautiful and available at prices the average viewer could reasonably afford. The watercolor show was beautiful
Only one year old, this arts center has played host to plays and music every month. The exhibitions, like the watercolor, pastel, theme and quilt, have grown in size and quality. There are always smaller exhibits to view and don't mist the Eco Gallery which is dedicated to the nature in the area. I live here and would recommend anyone visiting or living in Old Forge to put this at the top of their list. In addition, the workshops for all ages are fabulous. But, make sure you register early, as they do fill up fast. Check their website: www.ViewArts.org for a list of current events.
We visited for the Watercolor Show and it was excellent. The museum had an exhibit of ceramics and wood carvings which made it even more worth the trip.
