My wife and I live close by and enjoy Chestnut Ridge as often as possible. The park is a gem for those who know her. Great for birding, hiking, skiing, sledding, reading, nature walks and various other outdoor activities.

This park is just a few short miles from my home and it is someplace I enjoy visiting often. I love walking the trails or riding through the park. My dogs also love strolling through the park. A very beautiful place to visit.

This was on our list of things to do from Trip Advisor, partly because it is where you can find the eternal falls. We wanted to try and get all our outdoor activities done on the one day in which it wasn't currently or supposed to rain. It's relatively easy to find, especially if you are using a GPS. You can get at it from a couple of different locations but there is only one entrance that you can really get to the parking lot from. The place is huge, so we began (accidentally) just taking a drive around the park before we were able to find a map. There are set of washrooms in the big building across from the parking lot. It appears there are washrooms located throughout, especially at the covered areas used for group functions. These were not entirely in the best shape but were adequate. There doesn't seem to be any on site service of any kind. I never saw any kind of city or park employee walking around and there was nobody to ask questions from. You basically meander through the park to your own content.Pictures show a driving range, but I didn't see anything like this there. There are tennis courts, Frisbee golf, and apparently lots of trails although we never came across any or maps. It is a pretty big location, and an excellent spot for group outings as there are lots of covered areas with wide open space. There doesn't appear to be any camping or anything like that here. Definitely a nice place to come and relax for the day or for group activities. There are probably some trails, but without any employees we could find any maps or trail head locations if there were. It is spacious, and would definitely be a good place to come for a walk and in the winter they have downhill tubing runs for the kids. It is kind of like a conservation area, more than what I typically think of as a park. You could almost consider it to be more like a community centre with activities.

There is so much to do here.. trails to hike, tobaggan runs in the winter, playgrounds, picnic grounds.

Growing up this was the park that my family went to for picnics. The park is nice and it has spots to picnic, playgrounds for kids and quiet shady spots. A nice place to spend a day.

If you run, or want to train for something....this is your place! Coming from the city to this majestic place gives anyone a breath of fresh air. There are so many runs here that you can never get bored. From large 8-10mile loops to short 2mile loops. From technical trails to huge hill climbs. This is a training Meca for any runner who wants to better themselves!

We Love chestnut Ridge park, It sits high upon the ridge and overlook everything from orchard Park to Canada!!! Bring you own fixings for a picnic, or go to Georges grill just over the ridge. Be sure to Find the Secret fishing Pond!!! For 30 years, we didn't even know it was there? You kids can fish for sunnies or bass off the deck or shore. We attend an annual car cruise every fall, but there is always something to do there. Take a hike and see the Blue Flame waterfalls, It is a waterfall with a natural gas vent right out of the ground That keeps it flaming. This is a very large, old park, with lots of hide always, so you can always feel alone if you want, or lay out on the sledding hill in the summer to watch a sunset over lake Erie!!! This beautiful park will transform you back to your childhood. If you are i the Buffalo, NY area, or even close, It's worth the trip.

the rather casual maintenance of this county park seems to make it all the more appealing and nothing beats the ambience of the fireplace when winter calls

Make sure you make the walk from Chestnut Ridge Park up to Gas Light Falls. Enter the Newton Rd entrance and walk up the creek for about twenty minutes. It reminds me of Muir Woods in California. At the falls there is a natural gas vent that is typically lit or can be lit under the falls. I grew up down the street and its a place i visit every time I stop in WNY. Work up an appetite then stop at Georges at the bottom of Rt 277 Hill in Boston. Great way to spend an afternoon especially if its raining because the water will be ripping down the falls.

I saw the park back in the winter and wanted to explore it in the summer. We parked the car and just started walking without a map. We soon realized it was a HUGE park. So after walking 1.5 miles and not sure of where we were going we turned around and walked back to the car. Later we discovered that there are two parts to the park. Over by the casino?? you can see downtown Buffalo. This park is over 1200 acres and has many picnic areas and shelters. It is densely forested and very beautiful to be in. I suspect in the winter it is busy with snow sport enthusiasts.

Love to walk my dog here on a nice afternoon or watch a sunset. A pretty park with sledding and toboggan runs in winter and this summer offering free movies. Also great picnic areas with shelters playgrounds. They also have a lodge on a lake for rental.

We love this park - great for walking, exploring, picnicking, geocaching, Frisbee golf, and sleding in the winter.

This park has been part of my life for a long time, and I was unfortunately not able to visit in the recent years, and today I did...WOW what changes! It looks like they only care to maintain half the park, and that I a shame because this park HAS A LOT TO OFFER!!!! A lot of the shelters have been removed...why? On the side that they are tending to more has the "100 steps" (part of the park) was nice but not tended to in a while, bummer! The casino where everyone goes in the winter for sledding looks like they've tended to the outside quite well, didn't go inside though. I will return there is not a charge to go through park, but it looks like there is a charge to rent shelters there(the one's that are left). Not that you have to drink when in a park, but they no longer allow alcohol unless you have a permit! NY has TOO MANY LAWS and I think the parks are paying the price :( So sad...But I will be back and I hope more people check this place out. Go before they take away the BEAUTY of this park. It's a MUST SEE...IF YOU LIKE NATURE!!!

Great day in this beautiful park. Winding roads in lovely woods. You can have open fields to play in or lean to's, picnic tables, creeks, pavilions, hills...an eternal flame! Great place in all seasons!
