This is a nature lover's dream!! Everything there is to love about nature is in this park for anyone of any age.

Since its inception in 1921, Allegany State Park has provided the public with a fantastic opportunity to enjoy nature. It is not an artificial creation ala Disney World and others but a place where you can visit and enjoy the unspoiled world of nature. It is open year round and offers a wide variety of activities and opportunity. Generations of families have been coming to Allegany for nearly 100 years creating memories which become priceless to them. It really must be seen and experienced to be fully appreciated.

This is a park that has only gotten better with age. My husband went as a child and now we go with our own children. The park has recently upgraded many of its bathrooms and facilities. There is so much to see and so many beautiful trails. We often see bears and osprey! A must for anyone who likes to camp

No trip to Southwestern New York State is complete without a stop at Allegany State Park. No matter the season, no matter the reason, even just a drive through the park is well worth the time. Do yourself a favor and see what all Allegany State Park has to offer!

We go to Allegany State Park (ASP) many, many times every year. We go with Boy Scouts and their families to Camp Allegany for a weekend retreat. We've coordinated snowshoeing with the ASP staff, guided hikes and geocaching. Camp Allegany has several buildings one being the mess hall with a full kitchen, pantry and ... board games! The lodges at Camp Allegany each have bathrooms similar to what you'd see in a school; Mens & Womens each with several stalls and a shower.Allegany State Park has more group camps, like Group Camp 5, that opened this year for year round activities (snowmobiling, cross country skiing, mountain biking, etc). Every year there are improvements for a better experience.

I don't know if I can write a review that does this park any justice. Simply put, if I could only vacation in one spot on the planet ever again, it would be Allegany State Park. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it isn't for everyone. I mean, it is still camping, the vast majority of cabins available for renting are somewhat rustic. There are fully serviced cabins that can be rented, and two separate camp grounds where you can bring your RV.There are so many activities and attractions in this park, year-round, that I can't list them all.My family has been staying in this park every summer for the last 10 years, and look forward to many more years to come.Please feel free to ask me for any information, as I can't possibly fit all of the wonderful assets of this most amazing place into a single review..

Visited during the fall like I do every year. The most beautiful park I have ever been too during the fall foliage change. Great fishing, camping, hiking available.

I live at the foot of the mountains home to this park. I've been to many parks and the one I have enjoyed most frequently, of course, is Allegany State Park. And it's safe to say that I consider it to be a jewel, a feather, and a ribbon on Mother Nature's best hat. From the first time I went there back in 1973, I fell in love with the top of the mountain where the two lakes are: Red House Lake and Quaker Lake. Both have beaches and kayaking. There is also fishing, camping, hiking, biking, cross country skiing...all that kind of fun stuff. It's a beautiful New York State Park. I feel lucky to be so close to it.

Really cool geological feature. Well worth the drive over dirt roads. Make sure to bring your camera, beautiful scenery.

what a beautiful drive through this state park and a walk in the forest. excellent roads, magnificent colours of the fall. drove through Oct 18. the red house was a delightful surprise. gift shop , restaurant ( did not use) but in the great room we took in our picnic lunch which we were told was fine. there were multiple tables 2 fireplaces ( not on at this point) and a lovely view from the windows. we continued along the road around the lake and then on to quaker lake then took interstate back to town. a truly wonderful daytotally recommend

We only had a short time to visit as were were driving on to our next stop on a road trip but it made us want to go back and stay for an extended visit and next time bring the grand kids!

We visited family staying in a cabin. sat outside by a little stream so relaxing. then we drove around the park saw a few lakes and awesome sites. then took us up Bear Mountain Resturant the views unbelievable and food and food great.

We recently visited Allegany State Park for the first time, spending 3 nights in a cabin on the Quaker Lake side, and overall, the place really exceeded my expectations.The trails in the park are plentiful, and the trailheads are very clearly marked with large signs. The ones we walked were fairly well maintained, and there's lot of variety. We hiked several of them with our two dogs, and they were all a different experience. The points of interest we checked out were the Bear Caves, Thunder Rocks, Bridal Falls, and the Stone Tower. The Bear Caves were probably the most memorable for me, and required only a very short hike to get to. We had a great time walking around and exploring the area. The Thunder Rocks were great. The narrow dirt road to get there was long and very rough, but I'm really glad we checked them out. They're huge and beautiful, and fun to climb around on. The Stone Tower itself isn't a big deal, but the view from the top is beautiful. Bridal Falls is nothing too extraordinary, but the whole creek and falls area is very pretty, and since it requires only a very short hike of literally a couple of minutes, we felt it was worth it.We camped in the Quaker Lake side, but made frequent trips up to the Red House area, and overall, there seemed to be more to do there. We were also able to get a phone signal up there without a problem, while we had none at all in the Quaker Lake area. The way there is a long, winding road that becomes a little tedious after a few trips up and back, but it's worth the drive. The area around the Red House administration building and the lake is so beautiful, and a real pleasure just to walk or drive around, enjoying the scenery. There's a long paved bike path there, lots of picnic areas with grills and tables, a place to rent canoes and paddle boats, and a small beach (there's also a beach on the Quaker Lake side, but both beaches were unfortunately closed when we were there, as it was after Labor Day). We occasionally saw deer wandering around the many open grassy areas, and crossing the road in front of us. The Red House administration building itself is really nice and worth taking at least a few minutes to check out. There's a gift shop and a restaurant inside, a few rooms filled with taxidermied wildlife that can be found in the park, and a nice place to just sit and look out at the lake. Both the Quaker and Red House areas had their own gift shop packed with souvenirs, and general store selling some food and essentials (the general store on the Quaker Lake side sold some great ice cream), and all employees we came into contact with were friendly and helpful. Several different pamphlets and maps were available at both administration buildings. This park is huge and has lots of roads, but since there are signs at virtually every turn telling you what each road leads to, we never felt lost. Some cabins around the park appeared to have been recently upgraded, but ours, on the Buffalo Trail, wasn't one of them. The walls and floor were pretty beat up, with scratched graffiti here and there, and nothing to cover up the windows. We ended up putting garbage bags over the windows for some privacy, nailing them up with some of the dozens of nails left in the walls from previous campers. Still, it was more than adequate, and had everything we needed. There was shelves inside the cabin to store food, a fire pit, a light on the porch, and we were provided with a large table with two benches, as well as another bench, and the lock on the door worked fine. The stove and refrigerator were spotless and worked very well, the cots were surprisingly comfortable, and the location, with a wide creek literally just a few feet from our covered porch, tall trees offering shade, lots of space between cabins, and within sight of one of the scarce flush toilets, couldn't be beat. I would rent the same cabin again without hesitation. The nearby bathroom was pretty much what you'd expect. Not spotless, but acceptably clean, and there was always plenty of toilet paper and soap. Many of the other cabin trails only have an outhouse, so if flush toilets are important to you, choose your cabin tail carefully.Overall, I loved Allegany State Park, and will definitely be back!

Recently went to Allegany State Park specifically to hike. My husband and I have hiked parks around the world, we plan our vacations around hiking. We decided to hike the Beehunter trail and were appalled at the condition of what could be a great trail. Trees blocked the trail in so many places we lost track at the number of them. These were not trees that had recently just fallen, some you could tell had been there for years. For the money that this park generates one would think that trail conditions could be maintained. Some people would have a very hard time navigating around, under or over these obstacles. Some trails are alright and some are deplorable. This is sad for such a great park!

I would like to start with the fact that I love this park and have been cabin camping here for 30+ years. We go every fall for a long weekend and just relax and enjoy nature. With that being said.... I need to WARN ALL WOMAN that while I was taking a shower at the Fancher facility in the Quaker Run area I opened my eyes to see a man in the stall next to mine on a bench taking pictures/video of me. I screamed and he ran. I made a police report but want it to be know that this is happening. He knew the facility so this is not his first time there. One day just "watching" may not be enough for him. There are no camera's, locks or good lighting at the facility. PLEASE be very aware of this issue. Anyone that is suspicious call the police because there is no cell phone service so you can not call for help after the fact. The park needs to do something better for safety at the shower/bathroom facilities.
