This is a magnet for gardeners who love to see what's coming from the big growers. New varieties of annuals and perennials are planted in sunny beds next to Buffalo's Marina -- lovingly tended by gardeners who will take time to talk about their favorites and what is doing well in the harbored climate.
This is a lovely part of Buffalo, right on Lake Erie. We spent the better part of an hour just walking around and relaxing there. The flowers are spectacular!
What a great way to plan your own garden for next year! Take a notepad and note the names of various flowers and plants that are clearly labeled in the gardens. There are beautiful presentations of so many flowers.
Spent the night on the Croaker (sub) with the Boy Scouts- what a great outing. The staff there gave (gives) tours of the two ships and the sub. You can imagine yourself on any of the three during their mission years with the wealth of information given to you. Pieces of "living" history are always important to take advantage of.
A series of pretty flower beds spread out over a short walk. Some contain flowers being tested by seed companies. It a pretty walk along the waterfront. Grab an ice cream or something to eat at the Hatch and take the stroll.
A garden is always worth seeing especially one near bodies of water. It has been a pleasure to see then expand over the years. It is extra-special that they are also test gardens - just another Buffalo contribution to the world.
This is a gem on the shore of Lake Erie in the downtown area of Buffalo. There are flowers everywhere, a restaurant if you are in need of something to drink or eat and beautiful views of Lake Erie. You can walk out to the lighthouse and climb to the top to get even more wonderful views of the lake Worth the visit. And next door is the naval park. Another wonderful place to visit,
What a wonderful treat to stroll the gardens at the beautiful marina area. I used to live in the area and we came back to Buffalo for a visit. We marveled at the wonderful improvements to the area and the gardens were no exception. They gardens lined both sides of the drive. The gardens were beautifully attended. The various flowers were identified. It was a great way to plan for your own garden. They were a lovely backdrop for the tremendous views to behold. A wonderful place for a stroll. Great job volunteers and parks dept.
The volunteers and park employees have put together an oasis in our downtown area. The flowers are beautifully arranged and all along both sides of the drive. The real treat though are the test gardens, using seeds from both US and Canadian growers...both perennials and annuals. A treat to see any time, Spring or summer or fall! Bring your friends and family and enjoy the view and lake breezes and get an icecream cone from the Hatch just near by and chill!
I go to the marina a few times a year and always marvel at the view. You never know what will be sailing by. The last time it was a pirate ship to the delight of the kids in our group. The observation tower is awesome. Please be advised it is three flights up with no elevator but a must if you can. The old wooden carving are quite unique and make for some fun photos. This free beauty is an afternoon well spent
It was nice to see a variety of flowers along with the names of the flowers so you could go to a nursery to buy. Generates lots of ideas for next year.
WE enjoyed seeing the different types of flowers. They really do a nice job every year with the gardens, quite beautiful.
We went primarily for the gardens which were nice but not as extensive as we might have expected - but then again they are free to look at. What we enjoyed most was just strolling along the harbor on a beautiful Summer Sunday. There are fascinating boats in the marina and the lighthouse is visible just across the channel. It is a short walk down to the naval/military park and some historical exhibits on the canal. All of these attractions are listed separately in TA with their own fans. While I wouldn't go back for just the gardens, I would certainly go back for all you can do for free in this interesting area of Buffalo along the lake.
We go here almost everyday during the summer months. We bring chairs and seat on the grass looking out at the water, after work, prior to picking up the kids- very peaceful. Then on the weekends we bring the kids for ice cream from The Hatch-Perry's YUMMY!!!
If walks around the waterfront and flowers are your "thing", than this is a place that needs to be seen ! The Buffalo waterfront is growing and improving all the time. When entering the Erie Basin Marina you will drive past some of the nicest award winning rose gardens anywhere. Park here and start your walk through the gardens. Then continue down the seawall to the Hatch and have an ice cream before continuing to the Tower at the end of the marina and enjoy a view of Lake Erie and the city. If you leave the marina and go the other direction to the Navy Park and on to the Erie Canal Museum and enjoy !
