Store has so much to choose from! Love all the old candy I use to get when I was a kid. Staff was very friendly an candy very yummy! Will be back.
Have been visiting since 2007. Love the layout from floor to ceiling .Everything You Could Ever Imagine. Always A Pleasant Staff.
This place is a blast from the past! It is aisles and aisles of candy! From chocolates to chewy, from nostalgic to todays sour power, wow! Fun for gifts, or just rekindling your favorite candy memory. Give it a try.
What more can be said of this landmark candy (and nuts) store, easily found on Rt. 1? For us older ones, walking through the door is like walking back to our childhood where you'd go down to the corner store and salivate over all the choice "penny" candies beaming behind the glass while struggling to decide on exactly which ones to buy with the nickle gave or dime our mothers gave us. How Yummies manages to have literally thousands of different candies on hand in such an impressively neat and organized fashion is beyond me, even considering their on-site computer assistance. Yeah, the room may be a little tight inside when more than a few people similtaneously negotiate the narrow isles, but it's definitely an enjoyable experience. We stop in every time we're up that way.
The store itself is almost fun to wander through. It is crowded and there is not much room to walk through the aisles. Seeing all the old-fashioned candies is nostalgic, can't remember when I last saw candy cigarettes! My complaint is: since there is 10,000 pounds of candy from floor to ceiling it seems they should be able to sell it at a better price. Many bags of candy are $3.99 and would seem more reasonable at $2. Single bars, like Skybars, are .99 whereas Reny's sells them for .69. As far as I know, Reny's doesn't have the candy buying power that one would assume Yummies has. It is a tourist attraction to be sure and I will not be returning.
If you're a candy / chocolate / fudge freak, this is the place for you. Thousands of bins filled with every candy & chocolate confection you can imagine. Haven't seen those wax mustaches in decades!! It's actually a bit overwhelming because there are so many things from which to choose. But after you get stunned by the sheer numbers, just exert a little control & buy what you really want. It will be here. Fun place to explore & remember the candies of your childhood.
You can pretty much find any type of candy here. Even ones that bring you back to your childhood (at leat for me growing up in the 80's!) Candy cigarettes, liquid filled wax bottles, taffy lipstick & more! They have nuts/fudge/and a counter full of all different kinds of fresh candy. It's worth a stop in if you're in the area. They also sells shirts and a small selection of souvenier gifts.
I have to admit, the place near us (Pearl's Candy and Nuts) is so much more my speed. Yes, this place has some great hard to find candy, but it's so packed in that it's hard to navigate. I wouldn't go back, to be honest. I'll stick with what's close to home, with similar candy and prices, nicer people and more room to move.
Every time we visit Kittery, this is a must stop. Love going in for our favorites and bringing home some others. We never make it far before the first bag of candy is opened.
This store is truly amazing -- Amazing selection of wall to wall, floor to ceiling candy! A true rainbow of color, They have all the favorites from 50 years -- from Neccos and those dots on paper to Pop Rocks and Fruit slices, Jelly Beans galore and chocolate covered everything! And the store is amazing in the lack of customer service. My pet peeve about travel and shopping is lack of hospitality or customer service and this place takes first place for the lack of appreciation for the customer. I've stopped four times this year and I can't recall a smile or heart-felt, look in your eye thank-you. The employees in the aisles always seemed stressed -- they are always packing and stacking -- but the shelves are always full. The single register checkout is always a hurried experience -- there is always a line (2 or 3 deep at most) -- so be warned - have everyone in your party ready -- they frown on those last second additions that delay checking out the next customer. It's definitely a fun place to check out -- and a fun place to watch kids (of all ages) in a candy store -- the adults are often more amazed than the kids. Final warning -- while the prices are very reasonable -- it's very easy to spend $50 very quickly. All the more reason for those store managers to show a smile!
This the the best place in the whole world they had the penny candy from when I was a kid. I was excited to find sugar daddy's, candy cigarettes, chocolate rocks salt water taffy and chocolate carmels creams and so many more. Stop here you won't be disappointed!
Friends took us here when we vacationed in the area. They said no trip would be complete without this stop. Picture a warehouse stacked with 10,000 pounds of candy and nuts from floor to ceiling! We each found something to satisfy our sweet tooth. Seeing Turkish Taffy brought back memories of my youth!
Wow! A candy lovers paradise! If you can't find it here they don't make it. Did I mention the Pez! Some real cool european models, just the best of it all! Always a stop on our trip to York Beach!
With all the candy they had, they didn't have the type that my husband wanted. They have rows of candy, most of it packaged. As much as I always wanted to go here, we walked out with nothing. I gave it four stars for the amount of different types of candy they had, but I thought the prices were high and it wasn't as 'fun' as I thought it would be. Maybe I was expecting something better (after reading all the reviews), but it really didn't have that 'wow' factor that I was anticipating.
This place will bring you back to your childhood the moment you walk in the door. Wall to wall candy and a friendly staff.
