Pretty average grocery store, but the awesome gun shop up stairs and the other novelties make it great place of convenience.

Popular for generations, but keeping up with the times, Hussey's is the locally owned, family-owned and -operated version of a super store. On three levels (basement hardware, 1st floor groceries, tourists' stuff and sundries, top floor clothing and sports gear) it's the largest old general store in Maine. The friendly staff is knowledgeable and helpful, but, as an out-of-stater, the thing that I enjoy most is the authentic Downeast accents and sharp wit. Their slogan is "If we ain't got it, you don't need it."The groceries are from local gardens; the fresh venison's from Jay Hussey's deer farm across the way; the wine's imported, but for the most part a visit to Hussey's is a taste of Maine.
