Green fields, vast views of the Bay, walking paths, picnic areas, outdoor chapel, beautiful sunsets over the water, thankfully restroom facilities. Great place to get away to for the day or just a few hours.

What a beautiful park! Great for picnics, kite flying, walking and Sledding! Great hill for the younger ones with parking right at the top. They also have a Saturday farmers market in season.

A short drive from the main street in Bristol to the waterside is rewarded with generous green space, well paved roads and winding bike/walking paths. A public boat launch is available for anyone wishing to set sail into Narragansett Bay. A newly constructed fishing pier is located opposite the statue of the late Sen. John Chafee (and former Governor), a moderate Republican who championed environmental issues, including wetlands protection and the Clean Water Act. Commemorative benches and wooden picnic tables dot the landscape. There also are campsites available for weekly rental. A very family friendly place for picnics and reunions or a weekend outing.

Colt State Park is a gem in the beautiful seaside town of Bristol R I. Drive through the park and enjoy the beautiful views of Narragansett Bay. Enjoy a picnic at one of the many picnic areas that offer great views of the bay or the salt water Mill Pond. There are large open areas throughout the park for family gatherings, sports activities or flying a kite. Summer weekends can be very crowded so plan accordingly. One of my favorite places any time of the year.

Got to see loads of new England wild life and even some leaves changing. All free and great kite flying.

Today (10/13/14) is the first time I've been to this park and now it won't be the last. A nice mix of picnic areas, bike paths, open fields ( with rock walls all around), and water views. I can imagine that it may get crowded in the summer but on this beautiful fall day there weren't a lot of people which made the park just a nice place to be. Before we left we drove around the park and we happened upon the park office which is and old large stable. What a beautiful piece of stone work. On last thing there were more than enough picnic tables all around the park.

When I arrived a group of people were walking a 5K within the park, which I found to be amazing at the size. I saw 3 Great White Egrets within the marsh. Plenty of seating along the shoreline. Nicely made walkways for walking, running, bicycling. Bathrooms were clean. Lots of picnic tables and grills. When leaving is when I saw a dirt path that headed into the trees for a different scenery, nice. Plenty of space for playing frisbee, soccer, etc, but I did visit after season. Bring your camera, leashed pets and picnic foods and relax. I wasn't charged an entrance fee. FYI: Signs are posted that state the park is under surveillance and to clean up after your dog.

The park is a wonderful mix of sea shore and wooded views. There are numerous picnic areas, some shaded, some out in the open. Many of these spots have charcoal grills available. There are paved and dirt trails that have some small hills, but the trails are mostly flat. The paved trail is in disrepair in some areas and needs some TLC. We use the trails mostly for walking and jogging. This is a great spot for an event as they have a large pavilion and running water in the bathrooms.

This is a large and beautiful waterfront park with nice views, great for picnic, walk, bike, fishing, or fly a kite. The location on the Narragansett Bay is breathtaking and we really enjoyed our walk along the ocean and took great pictures.

The history of the area is intriguing... the barn complex, river waterfront, and bulls gate make for a great place to explore / picnic / bicycle/ fish.

We visited this park today with 3 other friends from Boston. Totally worth the trip! We love Fort Adams State Park's open view but this park is bigger with more things to see and do while is closer to Boston. As its after the Labor Day weekend, there was plenty of parking in multiple parking lots throughout the park. There is no charge for entrance or parking. Unlike the state parks in New Hampshire, most of them, if not all, charge $4 or $5 per person (not per car). The park is huge but very well maintained with restrooms, lots of benches and picnic areas. It has open space in shaded area with picnic tables and also near the bay with benches to relax. We were going to hit all the trails in the park but was distracted by the nice ocean view and ended up spending most of the time strolling along the bay. We found lots of little crabs hidden under rocks and it seems that people fishing there all caught something and happy. The architecture of the park office is surprisingly unique and the outdoor chapel is simple and cool! I can see some white birds in the marsh but can't get a clear view due to the tall grass along the marsh. I've learned that marsh area usually has more interesting wildlife activities so we are planning to come back later for a better view. Without the crowd, this is a perfect place to have a quiet moment soaking in the fresh sea breeze with amazing ocean view while doing your other favorite activities such as sunbathing, reading, treasure hunting under the rocks, fishing, kite flying...etc. We spent a couple of hours in the park and left around noon as the breeze became warmer and not as comfortable.
