It was really pretty at night all lit up but some of my pictures were hard to get. Had to go back during the day to get pictures. The flowers were really pretty.
Following the instructions for the old governor's mansion website, we called the phone number listed to make an appointment for a tour. We love visiting historic structures, and we looked forward to seeing this one. The woman who answered the phone agreed to give us a tour, but when we arrived the next day to take the tour, she never showed despite my two phone calls to let her know that we had arrived. I left my number on the recording but never received a call back. If they don't want to give tours, they should just refuse.
The tour showed some neat old architecture but wasn't really that awesome. I mean this is like visiting with the World Series runner up. If you like old buildings that have been kept up very nicely then enjoy.
I first visited the mansion at a reception years ago hosted by the governor and first lady of Kentucky for government employees. I have enjoyed seeing it numerous times since. It has been renovated and is still a beautiful old home although no longer used as a residence for the Lt. Governor.
Has the largest circular staircase in the world that is not supported. The rest of the place is unique as well. Check it out definitely.
Had the privilege of giving tours after it had been redecorated. The decorators did an excellent job. Still used alot of original antiques. Loved learning the history of the mansion and some of the furniture.
So what an Old Governor lived here, waste of time and taxpayer money to fix it up.
This recently renovated home is fabulous and a real must see, especially at Christmas!!
