Loved the collection of personal items ...Nice video that they start you out with Loretta talking about the movie..
Great little museum. Not very big, but really interesting and great video with Loretta Lynn. Cost was only $3/$4 and was worth it! Clean and well kept! Nice that it wasn't all dusty and unkept. Great job keeping up this history, really enjoyed it.
Online it says that the museum is open from April to August Sunday Noon to 5. We went out of our way and at 12:30pm, there was duct tape over the Sunday hours and there was a sign saying Closed, we will return at 9am. Very disappointed.
As museums go, it's not very big. But as the saying goes, size doesn't matter! This lovely little museum has so much history and star power displayed within it that it feels huge!Enter the museum to be greeted by Joann, the museum coordinator. In addition to all that is displayed and written in the museum Joann has much to add about life in the area, the musical families, her interactions with some of the stars, their children and families. Joann herself is a gem - and a fountain of information. She can tell you about the stars displayed in this "hall of fame" but she can also tell you about new local talent and up and comers. We thoroughly enjoyed the displays and the video of Loretta Lynn being interviewed about life in Butcher Holler, the making of the movie, life with "Doo" and so much more. Our big regret about this visit is that we couldn't be there on a Thursday. If you can arrange it, be sure to be in town for a Thursday night when the stage in the museum is open to anyone who wants to play, jam and sing ... local musicians turn out (and sometimes celebrities) and it's your chance to take it all in or get up on stage and join in the harmony. If we get back here again, it will certainly be on a Thursday ... that's an opportunity that is too great to miss.
This stop is a good place to start in the Paintsville area. Gives a good overview of who are from the area and where they can be found.
This is a little museum with very easy access from Highway 23. Joann the tour director is fabulous. She is very informative and answers any questions you have. We had intended to tour for a half an hour and then go to Butcher Hollow. We stayed chatting with Joann for over an hour.! There is so much talent that we didn't know that came off Highway 23. You will recognize all the names when Joann tells you them. I would recommend this museum to any country music fan and save time for conversation with Joann, she is truly a great and interesting person.!
We were at the Museum on a Thursday evening for the "Front Porch Pickin", It was really great, could not have better....The singers and players were top notch entertainers...We all will be back, and very soon..........
It was a very clean place and the nice lady that we spoke to could tell us just tons of things about the area. She was very kind and down to earth. On Thursdays there is an open mic for Bluegrass music, get there very early because it gets really packed,it's just a dollar to get in. The night we "TRIED" to get in it was packed, probably 200 people at least. Nice spot, easy to find and get to.
We visited this museum while in Paintsville and lady gave us a great tour and explained a lot about the singers and played a video of Loretta giving an interview. Also saw some beautiful pictures a local artist had painted and has on display in the museum. Nice place to take in while you are there!
We stopped at the country music museum during a weekday afternoon. It wasn't busy and the staff person was very attentive. It is small and takes about a 1/2 hour to really look at the displays and watch a short video of an interview of Loretta Lynn. We have family in the area but it was an interesting find and we enjoyed learning a bit more about the area that the singers have come from. Nice gift shop.
On June 26, 2010, I married the man of my dreams in the perfect location. It is simply a fairytale and the venue made it perfect. I had the wedding and reception here and it was amazingly beautiful. VERY stylish decor and we had a wedding planner transform it into our dream wedding. The staff here was so accomidating and nice! I would recommend this location to anyone! We even had our wedding shower here and plan on having a baby shower here someday!!!
K, so my sister came to visit the other day and we went to the Country Music Museum in Paintsville, KY. It is a local tourist attraction that is low cost and interesting. It costs 4.00 to tour the museum and watch about a 10 minute video about Loretta Lynn. It represents all the country music stars that came from US Highway 23. There is NOT alot of stuff to see and we spent less that 30 minutes--video included. We really weren't allowed to take pictures but I did anyway (I do kind of feel guilty now). But if you are a big country music fan, then you will need to see this museum. 4 bucks is not alot to pay for it. It DOES have a wonderfully clean facility and nice gift shop with lots of local and regional items.
