My wife and i along with four of our friends did this tour while we were staying at snowshoe for the fire on the mountain chili cookoff. We rented three of the two seater tomcars. These things were awesome. Their independent suspensions made the ride much softer than a razor or other type of atv hybrid. The day before our tour it rained all day so the course was extremely muddy adding to the excitement. Definately wear clothing you can get dirty. Sunglasses help too. I suggest the noon tour because it coincides with the schedule of one of the nearby steam locomotive train tours out of Cass. Our guides, who were great by the way, let us stop and watch the train go up the mountain. We were within 20' of the tracks when it went by at 5 mph pushing three cars loaded with sightseers. The first half of the 14 mile course had more water holes to run thru and the second half had more mud holes and washed out roads to navigate as you climb back up the mountain. If you're looking for adventure definately give this tour a try.
Awesome adventure, kidnapped the family and didn't let them know where or what we were doing until it was time to ride/drive the atv... After driving, i decided - if ever I would buy an atv, it would be a Tomcar - never once did we hit our heads off the head rest - and we were going down some rough paths...Fun, fun, fun, I will def do this again...
You get a two hour adventure which takes you on mud trails, hills, pits, rocks, you name it! It is sooooo much fun and the guides are friendly and informative. I've done this adventure two years in a row and I love it! TIP: Try to go the day after it rains. The mud will be nice and soft and the puddles will be deep and full of water! They are easy to drive and the power steering is impeccable on these vehicles. Prices go from $49-$150 depending on if your driving, riding, or how many people you have in your group. I was a solo driver so it cost me $150. Another great thing is they will film or take pictures of you going through fun areas. You will not be disappointed!
We went to Snowshoe to escape the heat of DC. A couple of friends went mountain biking down the fire roads but that wasn't our thing. We went to the activities office and the tour guide reinforced our choice of the Green Zebra tours - she everyone comes back from it raving about it. She was right. It's not cheap. Roughly $100 a person but much cheaper if you just ride in the guides car. We went two to a car and it was a little over $100 a person (plus we tipped our guide at the end). Don't wear white. Wear open-toed shoes. And wear something that you're okay if you get a speck or 12 of dirt on it. And, you can bring your stuff (like small purse, camera, phone, stuff) but you're strapped in pretty tight and it would be better to put your stuff in a small plastic bag of some sort to put in the center console. Anyway, they give you a short lesson and you strap yourself in (they check closely to make sure you're really locked in after every stop) and off you go in your green zebra - some like a small military like transport vehicle with open side likes a jeep. It was actually quite comfortable and we were surprised that the shocks we pretty good. Not a lot of jerkiness and quite a smooth ride considering you're going up and down and over rocks and ruts, and ditches and up the mountain and down the mountain. We stopped at a fire tower and climbed up. It's old school so if you don't like tight spaces, heights and structures that don't have all the amenities watch everyone else from the safety of the ground. This was about two hours, lots of climbing up and an but we felt pretty stable and then some straight aways where we actually got some speed. Once we adjusted to trusting the machine it was awesome. We had considered taking multiple vehicles so everyone could drive but not needed. We had more fun being able to talk in the vehicle and they let you switch drivers about half way through. This was truly an awesomely fun experience!
This is a great adventure for the whole family. Intense at times in terms of the bumping around on rough rocky terrain, but our kids (9 and 6) loved it! I highly recommend this - it's worth the price. Andy and Carol will make sure you stay safe and have a very memorable adventure!
