First of all, try not to attempt this on a race weekend as it would not be as good of an experience. We happened to visit on a Friday prior to the following race weekend and there was hardly anyone there, and we had the place practically to ourselves and were able to see everything as well as take the track tour. Everyone who worked there was very nice and helpful. We were able to take our time in the museum and really take everything in. It was fun to see cars from previous years' races and also to see the cars that had been involved in accidents and be amazed at how the driver got out alive. I would highly recommend for race fans.
Great museum that shows mostly NASCAR when I went there About 5 years ago they had Bill Elliot's Coors car that he hit 212 mph they had a Dale Earnhardt room that really did justice to Dale. There is also a frame by frame pics of the accident at Bristol where the car folded down on Michael Waltrip and lots more
We took the self-guided museum tour ($12) since we didn’t feel the need for the track tour at $8 extra (have been to other tracks before) -- nor did we have the time. My husband is a race fan. He loved walking through the lines of cars, reading the history, matching cars to drivers, etc. I enjoyed the history and the first room or so of cars. However, my appetite was whetted long before my husband’s! Even so, we spent about 90 minutes touring the three buildings.Note that this is not just NASCAR exhibits, although that is a large part of the Talladega history. Indy, stock car, drag racing, and even trucks, midget cars and motorcycles are on display. There is also an airplane (Bobby Allison’s), a DeLorean (think Back to the Future movie) and a motorhome (Dale Earnhardt’s) on display. Gift shop had the usual hats and t-shirts, but I felt items were overpriced. We have been picking up souvenir shirts in other locations for $15-20. These shirts started at $25. However, if you don’t mind leftovers from previous years’ races, there is a bargain rack near the back of the shop. If you are a serious race fan, you can even purchase a few of the cars on display! There was one odd item – it seems the manager of the museum had an old restored truck (absolutely no relation to racing at all) that he needed to sell, so he put it on the museum floor with the for-sale information. If interested, call the museum! All in all, it is a nice visit for motorsport fans or even those interested in automotive history. Others enter at your own risk.
From cars to award plaques. It was worth the $16 each which included a track tour. Ticket pick up same building and shout out to William Lamson who has been fantastic with his customer service and answering all my questions about the weekend over the past 6 months.
Being able to walk around and see all the cars in the museum was a true blast. I only wish I had more time to look around. You could spend a full day with no problem. My friend and I had to rush somewhat because his wife was waiting for us, but it was still worth it!
If you are a NASCAR fan, or a car enthusiast in general, add 1 or 2 stars to this rating (depending on your degree of fanaticism) and consider this museum a must-see. The museum is located next to the Talladega Superspeedway, and consists mostly of a display of many, many race vehicles (such as NASCAR stock cars) of various vintage. There is also a display of go-carts and motorcycles, and an Earnhardt Gallery devoted to the late and great NASCAR driver. One interesting display consisted of several wrecked cars that had been destroyed in NASCAR race crashes. One vehicle appeared totally demolished, but an informational sign said the driver of that car had not sustained serious injuries in the crash. If you like NASCAR, another museum to consider (which I highly recommend even for individuals who are not NASCAR fans) is the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is a new museum with interactive exhibits, and explains the history of stock car racing.
The place is full of history, yes most of the cars are from NASCAR, but with Talladega Superspeedway just feet away that is understandable. They still have other cars and pieces of racing history on display. Very neat place to visit.
There isn't anything I didn't like about this! Everything is amazing! There's even a room devoted to Dale Earnhardt. There's just soooo much to see!
We're motorsport fans (but not particularly NASCAR) and earlier in the day we'd visited the Barber Motorcycle Museum and we expected this to be better, however we were disappointed. There didn't seem to be much logic in how the vehicles were displayed and not much information about them. The gift shop stock was poor, the floors dirty and the staff (throughout museum) weren't particularly approachable or welcoming.
This museum is a great place to visit, especially if you are a NASCAR fan, it goes through the entire history of the sport and it was very interesting.
I love little museums like this that are off the beaten path. While the NASCAR HOF if huge and is more of a Disney type attraction, this HOF is like the place your school would have taken you for a field trip. Very neat stuff and you can take photos of it all. I like the access...and my only wish is that the gift shop had some vintage items, not just the standard t shirts and stickers.
International motorsports hall of fame was excellent. lots of really neat things to see fairly reasonably priced. lots of cars and lots of information spent a bit of time there. the only thing was that the exhibits were slightly spread out.
I was staying in Birmingham when I realized I was only an hour away from one of the greatest tracks in the world. So of course I had to go. My first time there, and I was not disappointed. January is an off time so I had the place pretty much to myself. could look at all of the cars going back to early 70's with Richard Petty number 43 to 80's legends of Dale Earnhardt to Bill Elliot to today current Nascar to Sprint Cup. They had a nice collection of vintage specialty with electric and even land speed record holders. I had a nice time looking over everything. Would like to return only when a race is going on. great location as you can also get a ticket for a ride around the famous track.
Wonderful museum with lots of racing memorabilia, including many cars from NASACR, Indy, NHRA and other motorsports organizations. Highly recommended!
First visit to Talladega Superspeedway Oct 2013 race. Super friendly and helpful staff, a HUGE variety of race vehicles to see, lots of memorabilia and interesting articles...everything from the Budweiser Rocket to quick change axles, flat head ford engines, NASCARs, Modifieds, dragsters, speedboat etc. Easy to spend 2 hours or more marvelling at the original super machinery. A MUST for any visitor to the Superspeedway.
