The new trail has some slick spots, you want good traction, and it does get steep towards the top, but you don't have to get very far above the trail-head for a spectacular view. Radio-heads will appreciate the view of the Eagle's Nest transmitter site, dreamers may look back at the trail-head and see para-gliders taking off below them, and everyone will enjoy the view of Cook Inlet, from Fire Island across to Mount Susitna.

I'm not a climber but reading others reviews about taking 5yr olds up it I thought I would have no problems. It was very icy and slippery we pushed through and made it to the top. So icy we actually sledded down just sitting on our butts. Was very fun, but I wouldn't label it as easy. Maybe if you're an experienced hiker then it's easy but to the beginner it's not easy, but very doable

Rain or shine this is a must climb. If it is wet it can be tricky but it makes it more fun that way! They re-cut the trail so the bottom half is easier to get up but the top half is still a bit tricky when wet/icy.Enjoy the view!

A great overlook to the Anchorage area, Mt. Baldy provides a great outdoor experience while relatively close to Anchorage and Eagle River. Remember though, I love Alaska!

We went on a very cold day in November. The hike was fun and we came across a number of people walking their dogs. Unfortunately we did not bring any crampons or ski poles as it would have been walking up the icy parts much easier. As it was, the icy hills didn't allow us to make it to quite to the top but I still enjoyed the relatively easy hike.

There are two trails up Baldy. One leads straight up the face and is very steep. The other is longer but goes along the side (walk up the old road a bit; just before a small pond and old buildings overgrown with alders, turn right onto the trail). Baldy is very popular with locals and you'll get grand views on a clear day, including Mt. McKinley far to the north.

The trails can be deceiving…the first time we hiked it, we followed a false trail. The second time we found the correct trail and made it to the top. It is great to take your dog…The view from the top is amazing! Go for it!!!

If you are a hiker of slightly above capabilities, the reward will be snow toped mountains and all that is Alaska. On a clear day, which is most days, you have the ability to see wildlife and volcanos! The view of "Sleeping Lady" is also a treat for your hard work climbing. Fresh air is also abundant.

My son and I hiked Mt. Baldy while I was there visiting. I didn't go to the top but from the area I did hike up to, the view was unbelievable. Next time I will go all the way up!!

The view from baldy is very nice, the climb up a bit steep, and it seems steeper going down. Doesn't take long and is very popular with everyone except small kids. I now use an alternate route, bearing toward the left through the car barrier, but it does have a muddy spot. I usually. go onward via a nice ridge walk toward Black Tail Rocks.

Awesome day with a solid areal view of the entire Eagle River/ Chugiak valley. Can easily be done within a day. Bring water.

Mid July with near perfect weather for Alaska my daughter and two grandsons, 8 and 5 treked up Mt. Baldy. We drove up close to the trail head at the end of Skyline Dr. in Eagle River. Our small packs had fruit, snack bars and water and we had a camera. The boys had never climbed a mountain peak before, we didn't know how long they would hold out. But, with extra stops to catch our breath and take in the view their spirit of adventure never flagged. It took a little over an hour to reach the peak. Once we did, we all savored it. GLORIOUS!! More snacks and renewed energy we began to descend. Everyone stayed upright and positive. Back at the car the 8 yr.old's self esteem had risen several degrees with a proclamation, "I just climbed a Mountain!" Go for the stellar view, go for the exercise or go to be able to say, I climbed a mountain. Remember, pack your trash back out and stick to the trail on the right without a barrier and even though I've never experienced a bear up there...make plenty of noise in the thicker brush.

Great hike, very easy. It took us 30min to get to the top (where the view is great) and 15 min to get down. However, there is still snow until April, so take some gloves and pants (when there is snow on the top, the easiest way to get down is on the butt).
