Rent a car or taxi. You can not miss seeing this river. Does not matter what time of the year it is you really must see it. Make sure to get some local knowledge on it before you go.

We hired a car from Haines and this was one place we visited. It was lovely and we even saw a bear walking through the River. Don't miss this.

This was an amazing rafting experience ! We were in town (Haines) for only one day with no previous arrangements, headed to the Eagle sanctuary. With only a phone call we had an experienced, knowledgeable engaging tour guide, that listened to what we were interested in, and accommodated all our requests. Further, we found this father – son team that operated this company to be instantly likeable, to the point that weve already begun plans to return.

Great afternoon float trip through the Chilkat River Eagle Preserve. We saw >40 Bald Eagles and found bear and wolf tracks on the sand bars. All equipment, gear and sustenance provided. Andy can tell you about the cremation of Sam MaGee if you like Robert Service poetry.

Chilkat State Park is a great place to hike along the river - just watch out for the bears. There are lots of plants and trees to see and identify, as well as fresh berries to eat along the way.

Where else can you stand 10 feet from a wild grizzly bear while it catches salmon in the river. Fantastic!! There is always a ranger on site during this season to make sure bears and people are safe.

The river flows through the Eagle Preserve and a float trip is the perfect way to see the eagles in their natural habitats. It was relaxing with excellent views of the birds up close and the mountains in the near background. Great float trip company: "Chilkat River Guides" provided transportation, lunch and a good experience for all. Great job, Meagan and Andrew!

We loved our river raft down the Chilkat. The river shape changes due to the ever moving silt and rocks so we meandered here and there along the way. Eagles and other wildlife abound. We were surrounded by snow capped mountains. So lovely being in the fresh, clean air and the quiet of mother nature!

What can you say about a river as an attraction. We simply drove alongside on the highway to Haines Junction. The river is very broad, fast flowing, and carries a noticeable amount of glacier silt. I know it to be a salmon river and I have visited in past years to see the amazing congregation of bald eagles in November.
