The food was very good and was freshly prepared. The ranger's video presentation about the Kenai Fjords Nat. Pk. was excellent.
We stopped at the island for dinner as part of the 8 hour National Park cruise. The island was pretty and peaceful, and the stones were wonderfully flat and perfect for skipping! The salmon and prime rib buffet was nothing to get excited about. The salmon was dry and the beef was fatty.
Four adults and four kids ranging from 6-11. We went to fox island as part of our Austin Adventures Alaska tour. We stayed in a pleasant cabin and went sea kayaking, we also had a great dinner in the lodge. So in summary small island doesn't take much to cover it. But just to sit there in peace and watch the world slowly move by is an experience unto itself. So next time no kids and more time to do absolutely nothing.
Our lunch on fox island was amazing the wait staff was great. The rocks are all flat and perfect for skipping. They are smooth too Our lunch was part of our fjord tour cruise boat. We took the 4 1/2 hr cruise and enjoyed every hit of it. Our lunch there consist of fresh green beans mashed potatoes prime rib salmon and king crab legs Glad we did this as part of our tour
Fairly expensive 2 night three day excursion, but well worth it except for the meals. The staff was great and the cabin was well appointed with a very comfy bed. Went on a full day kayak trip which was wonderful.. Our guide, Matt, couldn't have been any better. He was very knowledgeable and was sure to point out all the wildlife. Even had a whale breach not too far from our kayaks! The Northwestern Fjords boat excursion is not to be missed! That has been the highlight of our trip so far and one that we will never forget. The only let down were the meals. We were expecting fine cuisine which ended up being ordinary and nothing special at all. If planning this excursion, I would definitely inquire about the meals and what they plan to prepare. I had chicken 4 times during that trip. (Lunch and dinners). Otherwise, it was a fun experience and glad we did it.
We took a tour boat to Fox Island from Seward for lunch. It was a beautiful boat ride. Saw whales, seals, etc. When you get off the boat you go into a large room and everything is ready for an all you can eat buffet, serving salmon and prime rib. The food was very good. After you eat, you get on the boat and back to Seward.
went on the kenai fjords boat tour to here. IT was a beautiful day for us. I could see it would not be as much fun if it were raining. The island itself is small. You walk up a boardwalk to the restaurant to get your buffet. The buffet had salmon, primerib and crab legs which were extra. The sides were green beans and mashed potatoes. Somehow we missed the desserts. Seemed like they could not keep the drink dispensers fillup up enough. I was alway waiting in line to get something. The place sits several people so be prepared. One big room with tables all over. They did have outside seating but it was limited. They do have flushing toilets and a very small gift shop. on the way back to Seward we saw puffins, whales and sea lions. Beautiful!!! Tip: cute photo opp you can do with a dolphin sticking your face through a hole.
I took a boat with the kids out to Fox Island. The views are great. The boat then circled the island and we saw more of the island. It's a great way to spend a day.
My daughter and grandkids went on the excursion to Fox Island as my son in law partook in some fishing. This particular day it was raining as Seward's area is known for it's rain. The room was packed full of travelers ready to board the ship. I would advise you to get their early so you can get your tickets and find a place to sit. The ship was enclosed for most of us and open to those who wanted to brave the elements. It was hard taking pictures as my camera wanted to focus more on the raindrops than the whale jumping out of the water. I finally gave up on my camera so I could see them come out and see who we all were. The Grandkids, loved it as did we. The ride was a smooth one as I was afraid I might get seasick, yet my land-legs didn't mind it at all. My daughter was a little queasy, so take some Dramamine just in case. The Captain of the ship was a great tour guide and explained about Seward's history, the coastline, the birds and everything. Now. as far as FOX Island goes. SPEND THE NIGHT! Yes, it might cost a lot more, but I think it would be worth it. We went for the lunch cruise. They have a dinner one as well. By the time we got there, had a fantastic lunch and a Ranger talking about how the Island became Fox Island, then for the kiddos to do their lesson book to win a prize, there was no time to venture out in the rain much. We grabbed some souvenirs, ran the kids to the restroom and the ship did it's last honk honk, we were the last ones to board. So, it was a rushed trip for sure. Next time I want to spend the night and take a look around Fox Island.
We left Seward in warm sunshine and were lucky that the day remained dry and clear - although it did get very cold! Lunch on Fox Island quite average but the day cruise around Resurrection Harbour was lovely and the Kenai Fjord Cruise staff very informative.
We were fortunate to have wonderful weather. The boat was comfortable and the commentary good. The food served on the island was good, but the crab was a disappointment as it was cold. Should have skipped it.
much better than the typical boat tours, you get away from the typical tourist, and you get a little workout with it
I chartered the boat with this company and we stopped at this adorable little island for lunch. The indoor seating is almost designed like a mess hall to accommodate the large groups and the lectures/screenings they provide while you are there. They also have outdoor seating which was better, however they should NOT have the ashtrays out there on the patios for smokers.A. It is gross to have people smoking in such beautiful nature(also while you are dining)B. There are gorgeous blue chested birds that perch and fly around while you sit out there and they get the smoke as well!C. Refrain while you are on this Island.Other than that the lunch was pleasant- They provide you with a steamship round of Prime Rib, custom sliced for the guests and a few extra accoutrements (Beans, salad, potato and also a pasta option for vegetarians) They also offer an optional Crab Legs app-Everything was very good but they could have used a bit less salt on all when preparing.
The crab was cold and not fresh. The view was excellent and so was the prime rib. The crab killed it for me though. I am from Alaska and the crab was a bad representation of Alaska.
If you book with the Kenai Fjords Company you have the option of stay at the Fox Island lodge either as a part of your tour or separately. The lodge consists of a main building which houses a gift shop and cafeteria along with some interpretive displays. The rooms consist of cabins that are placed along the beach overlooking Resurrection Bay. If you are very fortunate to have clear weather you will be treated to spectacular views of the Bay and surrounding mountains. More typically you will see fog and low hanging clouds which can also be beautiful in their own way. When staying on the island you can do some of the hikes they offer with a naturalist or kayak in and around the bay or just stroll the beach. Watch for the local Sea Otters who patrol the waters just off the beach in search of food. Now, the staff!! If you want to be treated to exceptional service 24/7 this is the place to go. I’ve spent most of my career in the customer service business and I can honestly say that I’ve found only a few businesses that can match the level of service you get at the Fox Island Lodge. They are friendly, attentive and always looking for ways to make your stay better. The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! It’s almost worth a trip to the lodge just to eat there. I’ve seen some of the negative reviews posted, but for us this stay was one of the highlights of our Alaska vacation and I would highly recommend it. Yes it is isolated and it does rain a lot (its Alaska) so be prepared. Don’t go if what to be entertained and stay dry. Yes, it is on the expensive side, but if you like isolation and raw nature, away from the crowds, you usually have to pay to get it.
