What an amazing place. Made me feel so... small. Just untouched beauty that you can only see in so few places in the world. I took a seaplane tour and I smiled like a school girl from takeoff to touchdown. GO!
No matter the expense of a float plane, flying over Misty Fjords is an absolute must for any visitor to Ketchikan! There are special prices for locals as well on some occasions. The grandeur took my breath away and caused tears to come to my eyes. The awesome beauty is beyond description.
Once in a lifetime trip, that I will be taking again and again. It was beautiful, a wonderful cruise with gorgeous waterfalls.
I was here on a family cruise in July of 2010! It was so gorgeous! Even better on the ship going through the narrow fjords!
Quite a beautiful place. The birds, vegetation, and marine life were wonderful. Striking mountains and exquisite colors.
I'm a local here and I started working for Taquan Air years ago and I had never been out to the misty fjords and even I was amazed by how gorgeous it is. If your going to do any type of flight seeing, definitely get a tour to Misty Fjords on Taquan Air.
Misty Fjords is dramatic and worth the trip ... but it's not Norway, or Prince William Sound, or Fjordland in New Zealand. What you do see is dramatic cliffs, high mountain lakes, and deep tidal sounds. It is definitely worth a trip, but there are no glaciers. As a float-plane trip out of Ketchikan, it's a good thing.
My husband and I took a flight over Misty Fjords National Monument. The sky was clear and the view was AMAZING!!!! We landed on the wooden platform above the water... It's so peaceful.
Misty Fjords was totally one of the highlights of our trip and I never flew in a small plane. Begin by saying I would go back in a flash and loved flying over the Fjords one of the most beautiful sites.I got to sit in the co-pilots seat because one of the three couples didn't show and I thought just in case Ha Ha I loved the flying and the sights don't miss this adventure
iFirst time we ever did a flight gliding plane ride. Was really neat! When we landed in the water, it was so smooth! We saw seals playing on the bank going in and out of the water! Noisy but they give you earplugs that played soothing music. Was a big cloudy and sprinkling but was still very nice.
We did the Misty Fjords Seaplane Adventure with Promech Air as a shore excursion from Ketchikan during our Regent 7 Seas Navigator Alaskan cruise. It was a highlight of our month long trip to Canada/Alaska. My husband is scared of heights and very wary of small planes so he would only agree to go on one flightseeing trip during our holiday. I'm so glad I chose this trip. It was amazing. The aircraft seated about 10-12 passengers with everyone getting a window seat. The wings are above the windows so there is only minimal view obstruction by the wing support. We wore headsets so we could hear the recorded commentary as well as personal commentary by our excellent pilot. We had an atypical blue sky day so no cloud obstructing our view. Our pilot Carl took us close to cliffs and found mountain goats to show us, tipped the wing so we'd get a better view of waterfalls and generally made the trip very personal and memorable. I was so busy taking photos out of the window I didn't realize we'd actually landed on Mirror Lake until we stopped moving completely the landing was that smooth. We were able to get out of the plane and stand on the floats to take photos of the surrounding scenery with stunning reflections on the water. It's amazing to see mountain after mountain after mountain when you are up above it all. The myriad lakes, rivers, waterfalls and snow capped mountains just go forever. Our pilot's grandfather was a bush pilot pioneer in the area so he had a wealth of knowledge and years of flying experience. As an Aussie I tend to give gratuities reluctantly as it's not part of our culture but I willingly gave Carl a decent tip at the end of this trip - even my husband couldn't stop smiling and talking about what a highlight it had been.
Please ignore my rating as we did not go to the Misty Fjords. We were really bummed that our trip was cancelled because of weather. The reason for my review is to recommend that you have a backup plan in case you have the same trouble. It is my understanding that this excursion is cancelled quite often. We ended up going to the local bars and the day turned out to be a blast. But our intention was not to go all the way to Alaska and spend the day in the bar. Just a recommendation and hopefully you will have better luck.
During our cruise, we stopped in Ketchikan for a visit. We did book an excursion to Misty Fjords. The seaplane to and from Misty Fjords was breathtaking and thrilling. At Misty Fjords, we did go on a walking tour with our guide. Along the way I seen a baby black bear - of course nobody else did because I pushed my daughter backward and screamed because it was that close I could have reached out and touched it - luckily, it took off in the woods. We got to the overlook and seen another black bear in the creek catching a salmon it was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone like a little adventure and wildlife sighting.
My wife went on this one alone due to the cost. But was one of those bucket list things and she really wanted to do this one more than me. She did the boat in seaplane out. This is the way to do it although costs more. She said the boat ride back would have been too much. But was good to go next to some of the high cliffs that go straight up from the water while on a boat. Then to see everything form above was amazing. She had a wonderful experience and amazing scenery.
This was one of our best highlights while on our Alaska cruise! Our pilot was the best because it was somewhat cloudy, foggy and rainy the day we went and quite a few of the other airplanes went back to port only after a short while. I don't think it was the pilots that wanted to go back, but maybe the passengers, being nervous, because the pilots do this all the time. We were so glad he kept going, the views were amazing, so many tall waterfalls. We were flying between islands that were higher than the altitude of our plane. And then landing on the lake and getting out of the plane and standing on the pontoon was scary and awesome. All in all a very unique experience we will never forget!
