Near a wonderful trail that leads to Bishop's Beach, the visitor center will give you great information on the flora and fauna of the South Central, Kachemak Bay, Cook Inlet area. Since you are in one of the most beautiful natural settings in North America, take some time to learn about the sensitive eco system you are visiting.

The Islands and Ocean Visitor center is a beautiful and extremely well done facility. The exhibits on the Alaska Maritime Refuge natural and cultural history are interesting, modern, and educational. There is something for everyone here, from Environmental Education for the youngsters (and oldsters too!), to wonderful films about the Refuge, to the exhibits, to a great Alaska Geographic Bookstore. The Kachemak Bay Research Reserve office is located here as well, and offers an "inside look" at the ecology of Kachemak Bay. For those who want a short hike and a taste of the natural world of Kachemak Bay, there is a wonderful self-guiding nature trail just outside the visitor center that traverses the Beluga Slough.

Near Homer we had the chance to visit this place. A nice design building and surrounds ... inside a great surprise: A movie theater, several exhibitions about the wildlife, birding, science and investigation but also about human habitation and local history. Well done ... lots of information available, modern interactive displays, informative posters, multimedia screens and plenty of kids activity's are present every day for the enjoyment of visitors. The exhibits were really well build and designed, keeping visitors attention. There is also a typical gift shop and a exhibition of great local artists that have artwork for sale.If you have 1 to 2 hours free don' miss it.

If you are looking for a free place to visit and learn about the local area's natural history and the history of the Aleutian Islands, this is the place. They also have a great little gift shop!

I had not know about the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center the first time I was in Homer. I only stopped by on a whim, and am very glad I did. The center is very well put together, with an intuitive layout and fantastic displays. A must stop.

This was a nice stop. We learned about the history and wildlife around Homer and out to the Aleution islands.

Lots of wildlife on marsh boardwalk, including baby sandhill cranes! Lovely things to read along the way too. Glad the trails are open to the public even when the visitor center is closed!

This is a nice place to stop at while in Homer, they have some interactive recorded scenes, it doesn't take long to walk around and read the informative signs

Fabulous experience, dynamic and interactive. Displays are simple, informative and interesting. The adults in our group had a good time, as did the kid. The volunteer on duty was great with kids and super helpful. Allow at least an hour. Free! Very pleased.

Located in the heart of Homer, this place is well done with lots of wonderful exhibits that tell of the history of Homer and much about the animals in and around Kachemak Bay.and you can take a walk down to the beach from there. Great place for adults and children!

A trip to Homer is not complete unless you visit here. The center gives tourists insight into the ecosystem of the islands and the birds and fauna.

Every time we go here, we really enoy it. It is free and we sure like the trail to the beach behind the building. Wow!

This educational facility has a wealth of displays inside and several trails around the facility with awesome views. For those interested in geocaching, there are several geocaches in the immediate area.Well worth the time to learn about this area and these people are delighted to provide individual time to answer your questions. No admission charge but donations are accepted. There is also a small gift shop with some Alaskan souvenirs.

The Alaska Island and Ocean Visitor's center is a great place to learn about your surroundings in Homer. The staff really love their community and bay and are willing to talk about them and to answer all your questions. The small historical display is worth a short visit. Take a short walk down to the beach for a beautiful view.
