I visited Hoodoo on a recent stop in Fairbanks. I always try to sample local craft beer and what I heard about Hoodoo intrigued me. I wasn't disapointed. I arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and the place was jumping! I quickly tried a pint of their Kolsch and I must say I was immediately transported to Cologne where I enjoyed Kolsch looking at the Dom! A very impressive production of that style. All of the staff were extremely welcoming and I ended up taking some of that Kolsch to go in a Brauler along with some other goodies. If you're a craft beer lover and you're in Fairbanks, check out Hoodoo - First class all the way.
We enjoy going to HooDoo Brewing Company. This small company started up two years ago, but they are going strong and make the best beers in Alaska. We made the trip from our home in Valdez to Fairbanks (360 miles away) to attend HooDoo's Oktoberfest. We had a great time and enjoyed some great beer.Food is available from food trucks that come to HooDoo. If you like great beer, you need to come here, enjoy a couple pints and fill your growlers!
So I had really low expectations of this brewery - my husband tried every brewery we could while traveling through Alaska. However, the four beers they had on draft were amazing. I am still talking about their Tripel! You can do a flight and try them all or get full glasses. Food truck/tent was there the night that we visited. This is a great rising brewery and one of my two favorites in Alaska (the other is Midnight Sun in Anchorage). I hope they expand and someday distribute to Ohio!
You can tell this place is just getting started but it has lots of potential! It is not easy to find. It is clearly a locals spot right now because everytime we asked for directions, no one knew what we were talking about. So we ended up walking 2 miles there and back! However, we enjoyed the brewery very much. Samplers/Flights were reasonably priced and the brews are very good. I am not a stout beer drinker, but I loved theirs. It was worth the walk. My recommendations to the owner is to begin serving food, even if it's just popcorn and cheese plates. It will sell! Also, their T-shirt stock was low. We probably would have bought more had there been some in our size. We would go back for sure though.
This is a neat little brewery where a lot of locals go. It was recommended to us by a lady who lives in Fairbanks and said her husband goes there all the time.We enjoyed it and the beer was good.
They brew great beer at Hoodoo. The bar is not fancy by any means, you just stand in line to get your beer, then find a seat inside or outside. There is no food, just beer, which is fine. We thoroughly enjoyed a sampler flight and a couple of pints, while talking with some of the locals. There were lots of people, and we felt very welcome, even though we were obviously from way out of town.
This is such a neat little brewery! A true gem in the interior of Alaska! The beer is yummy. I just had a sampler of like 5? The set up is pretty cool, love that they literally brew the beer right where you sit :)
My wife and I stopped here twice while we were in Fairbanks. They sell very good beer but no food. They had 5 or 6 different beers on tap.We made the mistake of arriving @ 5:00 on the first visit and the place was packed. We were able to get the last two seats in the place but left after one beer - too crowded for us. On the second visit, we arrived around 3:30 and it was less crowded and lot more enjoyable. I agree with the last reviewer that the indoor seating area could be improved. IMO, if you can't get there early it's not worth the hassle, at least in the winter. The seating situation might be better in the summer when the outdoor seating is available.
Lots of selection, IPAs, Lagers, Light and Darks, Stout, etc. In the summer a good outdoor deck too. But in the winter, few places to sit, they could do a much better interior and set up
I stopped by here after a recommendation by a Fairbanks Fire Dept officer. It was as good as he claimed, and their selection of local beers is fantastic. I ighly recommend trying their beer sampler to see which ones stimulate your palate. I give their beers high marks, and hope to go back soon. Highly recommended when in Fairbanks!
If you're a beer snob that doesn't mind standing in line for 20 minutes for a glass of beer, this is a place for you. This place is run like a coffee stand instead of a bar. I won't be back until they figure it out.
