I've been to a few small town wineries and the wine mostly tasted like a backwoods recipe - NOT AT POST! We were greeted by a very nice woman offering us a sample of anything we wanted. I'm not sure I sampled a wine that wasn't tasty. I will most certainly be buying Post Familie Wine at my local store more often! The gift shop is very nice - it doesn't feel like a tourist stop. There are cool items for sale and the prices aren't marked up. They also have some yummy snacks. If you're heading to this area to tour the wineries, DO NOT skip Post Familie! You will NOT be disappointed!!
We saw the sign "Muscadines" and thought we were in for only sweet wine varietals, but boy were we surprised. There were lovely dry offerings in both the reds and whites. And, in the sweeter range, the port and sherry were excellent. We stuffed a few bottles in our suitcase (which flew home safely, thank goodness). Also, their gift shop has some unique items. This was a very nice experience.
We stopped in the Post Winery Gift shop after having visited Wiederkehr Winery, Mount Bethel Winery, and Chateau Aux Arc Winery. The Post Winery Gift Shop was by far the best, most attractive gift shop. We thought their wine tasting bar was the most attractive with the most attentive servers. We liked the Post wines the best and purchased their Post Cynthiana, and Domaine Montel Port. It would appear to me that the vast majority of all wines made in this area are very much on the sweet side. So if you prefer red wines or even the dryer white wines they are not to be found in the Altus, AR area. But if you only visit one of the four wineries in the Altus area I would strongly recommend the Post Winery as the most appealing.
I have been to this winery several times. It's always a fun way to spend the afternoon. This trip we purchased a glass of wine and some cheese and enjoyed hanging out on the patio. My favorite wine here is the strawberry fields, the parachute is also really good! If you're in the area you really should stop in!
Have been to the winery several times. Very friendly and helpful staff. Especially like the Pink (was called Blush) muscadine, and the Parachute white. Some of their wine can now be found in stores, hope it is avallable near me soon.
I'm a lover of sweet wine and muscadines, so Post winery is perfect for me. They had several wines to taste, and the tastings are free. We sampled half-a-dozen wines and wound up buying a mixed case plus a few bottles! Most of their offerings are very affordable, under $10 a bottle, so it was no hardship to bring them home. Their Blue Parachute is now a new favorite of mine. We didn't take the tour, so I can't comment, but their tasting room is lovely, with nice cool air conditioning.
Any time we find ourselves near the Post Familie Winery, we stop! We love their wines, and prefer to buy them whenever possible. Post has, in just the last couple of years, made tremendous improvements to their gift shop and sampling area. They're terrific about leading you through any wines you'd like to try; since we know many of their wines already, we can just ask what's new, and try those. (This is compared to the Wiedekehr tour, where they select about 4 wines for tasting; they're not nearly as flexible.)The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable, the wine is great, and the selection of gift items for wine lovers is wonderful.
The wines were delish and the staff was super. Enjoyed a tour of the facility and sampled at least 7-8 different wines. And on top of it all, the prices were very reasonable which allowed us to purchase all of our favorites.
We stopped here because we hadn't toured a winery before. The staff was very friendly. They seemed quite knowledgable about the wines and they gave us the tour. I found it fascinating and our guide was able to answer any question we asked. We ran across several other employees and all greeted us and said hello. We bought several bottles of juice and wine and the prices were reasonable. They packed them up in good boxes for us as well. I highly recommend a stop here.
Our first stop of the four wineries in this area, and in many ways it was our favorite. Very nice tour of their facilities, then a generous free tasting of any wines of interest. Many very good wines here, including their muscadine wines. Came away with several to take home and enjoy - don't hesitate to stop here.
Post's new wines are wonderful. Try the Chambuchin and Blue Parachute. It is my understanding the due to trade laws that the Altus wineries are unable to ship. You will want to take bottles home to give as gifts. The bottles are pieces of art. You will not be disappointed goung there.
We go to Arkansas several times each year and always make time to stop in Altus. Post Winery is conveniently located there on a windling road to takes you through an area where there are many vinyards. Post has remodeled over the past few years and is clean and well stocked. The tasting bar is available for those who aren't familiar with the wines offered there. Their juices are as good as the wines should your party need something other than wine. The gift shop offers many nice things.
Sheri is the best along with all the staff at Post! Fun time with fun people. I must on a daytrip from Fayetteville!
The Staff was very helpful and friendly. We were impressed at how clean the gift shop was, and how nicely we were treated. They allowed us to taste as many of their wines as we wanted to. Of all the wineries we visited, we liked the wines here more. The tour was not rushed. It was a very interesting, informative, and fun. The tour covered the history of the Post family, the general process of making the wine, and ending with the bottling and labeling. We were shown through each building housing equipment used in winemaking production. Friendly, clean, great wines, what more could anyone ask for?
I like the Sherry at this winery so went to get some. They have newly renovated their little winery gift room. New bathrooms and a new dining area. The dining area is only open two day a week for pairing food and wine. So call if you want to do that. Otherwise you can taste all their wines or even their own non alcoholic Grape juice. The workers are nice and very helpful. The only downfall is that they are unable to Ship your purchased wine to you, since the laws in Arkansas prohibit that. The place is clean and nicely decorated. We went at Christmas time and it was very pretty.Make sure to visit other wineries. You could make a day of it or even shorter since there are several very close in proximity.
