I'm pretty biased about the boat shop since I live just donn the street. at christmas it's open to the public and there are local artisians selling very beautful and creative gifts. the atmosphere is very festive with a view of the river and a live band.........it's really a must visit at holiday time or any time. the staff is more than welcoming
I live locally and always look forward to visiting Lowell's boat shop. We have an annual house tour that includes the shop and this is one of my favorite stops. It's fascinating to see how they build these beautiful boats from hand. The shop itself is like walking into the pages of history ... very rustic. If anyone in your group is into boats or maritime history, this is a must see. Views of the Merrimack River are an added plus.
Lowell's is the oldest continually operating wooden boat shop in the US. There is a lot of history to be learned here, and if you are lucky enough to run into Graham while there, you can not only learn about the ins and outs of wooden boat building, but also learn some history of the area. It's a beautiful spot on the banks of the Merrimack where they still build the Amesbury dory. And you can, on certain days, take a dory out and row it on the river. Make sure you go out against the tide so you can come back with the tide!
Visit the home of the Amesbury Dory, a style of boat that feed a young nation, saved mariners in peril, taught people to sail, and gave citizens recreational pastimes. A working museum, the the craft of wooden boat making lives on and is passed down. Even try your had at rowing a dory in the warmer seasons.
Must see for boat people and woodworkers of every kind. Historic boat building shop, oldest continuously running in the country. Their products are of the finest quality. Location is smack on the river, with their boats in the water. Spectacular place. Part museum, part active workshop. Classes and much more. A rare place. You'll always remember it. Have lunch at Andyman's or dinner at Ristorante Molise. Drive by the Rocky Hill Meeting House.
They have the warmest and really wonderful Christmas party with food, gifts and fantastic music. Santa makes an appearance too! Beautiful location facing the Merrimac River. Great to become a member for summer months. Supports a beautiful art -- wooden boats beautifully made. They have the MOST beautiful window boxes too -- made from the same wood for the boats.
The oldest boat makers in the country, it is a national site. Visit if you get the chance. Memorabilia from whaling days, and you can take a dory out to row. A fun and interesting time in a beautiful section of Amesbury: right on the Merrimac River.
I love this place. I love watching people row boats down the river. I LOVE they are STILL making boats there! Great place to bring the entire family!
