It's full of treasures from early Beverly. Lots of activities to enjoy tours of historic areas. Great presentations of historical figures at special gatherings. There's a train museum in the basement. Great for RR buffs.
This was an interesting experience for me. My family is from this part of Massachusetts originally, but I did not expect to find many traces here--more an overall feel of what this town was like in the past. I was wrong. Turns out that my great-something grandfather, Luke Prince, was a painter, which I did not know, and had two paintings in the collection of the museum! The museum is housed in a representative house of the late Revolutionary War Period in Georgian style. It contains representative room from the era and also a banking office, as the house was once used as the offices of the Beverly Bank, and a number of artifacts remain from that time. There is a research library as well (charge)--it was fun to seem my grandparents names in the city directory. If you like trains *do* ask to see the railraod collection in the basement.
